Rolf Michaelis Obituary

Michaelis
Rolf Michaelis Beloved husband, father, uncle and treasured friend, was embraced by the arms of the Lord through Heaven's Gates May 19, 2011.
Rolf was born August 23, 1922 in Ritterhude, German to Augusta and George Michaelis. He grew up in Westfield, New Jersey where he met his high school sweetheart, Rita, the love of his life. They married June 9, 1945.
Proud to be an American, Rolf served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. He was employed by Exxon for forty-two years as Domestic and Overseas Payroll Department Supervisor. He also worked in Saudi Arabia for three years for Aramco. Rolf loved to travel for work and pleasure, circling the globe twice with his wife by his side. But, most of all, he loved their home in Majorca, Spain, where, for the last 30 years, they spent six months each year, enjoying the island and all their wonderful friends.
Rolf, always a soft spoken gentleman, and a gentle man, will be fondly remembered for his energy of life, love, and his caring for all.
Rolf is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Julietta Clouster and Mabel Luciano. Remaining to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Rita, his beloved son Glen, Ben Groll, numerous nieces and nephews, and an abundance of friends in the United States and abroad.
Dad, thank you for always being there for us, for all your love and understanding, and for giving us wonderful lives. We will miss you more than words can say, but you will be with us every moment of every day!
'Til we are together again, may God hold you close in his arms.
So much love, Rita, Glen and Ben
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 1st at 3:00 pm at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056, with a reception to follow. Interment will be at the family mausoleum at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the SPCA or the wonderfully caring Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030, or a charity of choice.

Rita,Glen, and Ben, I am very sorry for your loss. Mr. Michaelis was very kind to me, he would always stop at the concierge desk and shake my hand. On a few occasions he would talk about his service during WWII. I feel very honored to have known him. Robert Carroll (concierge)
