To my other family,

Psalms 30:5 "For His anger is but a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. May God continue to bless each and everyone of you. Your father was a blessing and you too will be blessing. We know this; because, Obbie has been a blessing to the Ellis family.

God Bless,

Mr. & Mrs. Johnny Ellis & Family

To my Toliver family,

I am so grateful to be apart of the Toliver family. We all know that "Doc" lived a good life and he still lives. "Doc" is just away from us and we must prepare ourselves to join him soon and very soon. "Doc" touched so many lives and my life in so many ways I can not even begin to express. I will always cherish his last day with us the most; when we were singing, praying and praising the Lord. Oh, how peaceful and beautiful it was. The spirit of the Lord was definitely there. To all that could not be there; you really missed a joy ride and "Doc's" joy ride to heaven. He is fine, fine, fine!!! I love "Doc" and I will miss him dearly. My hat (from "Doc") goes off to him.

Love always,

Mrs. Obbie Carthur Toliver, Sr.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Toliver Family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. I grew up knowing that Mr. Searcy Toliver was a man that I could model myself after. I remember going to the barber shop in downtown Bryan and when Mr. Toliver came in you could expect to hear something funny and uplifting. The contributions made to the Bryan/College Station community are greatly appreciated. He will be missed!

To the entire Toliver Family, It is with great sadness that I received word of Searcy's passing, To say that he was a stalwart of the community goes with out saying. He was to me a man to look up to and admire. He was the man that gave me my first job (Sweeping the Barber Shop floor). There were numerous young men in Bryan that he helped launch into business. He always had a smile on his face. He will be missed by all who was privileged to know him. I would like to close this tribute to Searcy from his cousin and gandson of Mrs. Bessie Bynum with a quote from John 11:25-26 " Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in ME, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in ME shall never die." (NKJV)

We will all miss Daddy Searcy very much, he was always kind and loving towards my family , my children were always welcome at the home of Dorothy and Searcy Toliver. You would always get a history lesson on black culture and contributions from Daddy Searcy. You could see God in his face. He truly made the world and Brazos Valley a better place. If you knew him, you knew who helped integrate the food counters in this area. My prayers go out to the Toliver Family.

AS a boy growing up in Galilee, I have always admired the head usher - Mr. Searcy. He inspired us all to get as much education as we could. A great soldier in the army of the Lord. He will be missed.

WOW. Mr. Toliver & his family have always been very well known in the community; "Searcy's Barber Shop" near Food Town in Downtown Bryan was definitely a household name to all of us who grew up here. Although - the passing of a loved one is truly sad & humbling, this Obituary is an extremely "priceless" compilation of his life; memories can fade a little over time; but reading each line visually takes you back to that time - thank you. My Prayers are with the entire Toliver Family. 84 years - what a Blessing
