Sharon DeVore Obituary

Heavens gates opened wide to welcome a beautiful redheaded angel. SHARON (SHARRY) DeVORE, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, in Spring, Texas, at the age of 67. Sharry so loved life and people, bringing joy and happiness to all those who crossed her path. She has touched so many people's lives in so many ways. She always recalled with great fondness the many friends she made in the places she lived and was always thankful for those who shared in the special moments and events of her life. A social worker for 21 years, Sharry was actively involved in church, politics and community. Her devotion to others was evident in her service on behalf of the homeless and underprivileged. She was recognized by numerous organizations for her selfless commitment. In the final chapters of her extraordinary life, she inspired others with her courage and strength in the face of adversity and comforted her friends and family in her usual inspirational style, leaving them laughing almost as much as they were crying. Sharry courageously struggled to live with hope and dignity throughout her long fight with cancer. She would light up even the darkest of rooms by simply walking in; her vital, vivacious, shining light will truly be missed. Everyone who has ever met Sharry will never forget her. She never met a stranger. She taught us the importance of living everyday to the fullest and not shying away from life's challenges. Sharry was surely a human being that God sent us an example for all of us to emulate. Sharry is survived by her mother, Jeannette Lindsey; loving daughter and best friend Julia; son Michael and daughter-in-law Betsy, granddaughters Courtney and Heather; son Stephen and daughter-in-law Rachelle, grandchildren: Richard, Lindsey, Michael, Matthew and Liana; sister Diane Arnold (Bradley); brother William Lindsey (Mary); and all her treasured nieces and nephews. Her family welcomes all who knew and were touched by Sharry to celebrate her life at Northwoods Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 14, 2006 at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, Sharry has requested memorial donations to be made in her name to MD Anderson or a charity of your choice or by giving blood so another's loved one may live. Sharry, we hope you are dancing. We love you!

Julie,

Your mother was truly one of a kind. I always loved being around her. She was always positive and upbeat and made us all laugh no matter what she was going through. Know that she will be missed, but also know that she lives on through you as you too are a beautiful person as she was. I know that she is in another wonderful place right now spreading sunshine!

To Sharry's family;

Rich and I became friends with Sharry through my class reunions and Sharry, Nancy Stevenson Brounley and I formed a trio of cancer survivors. We called ourselves the T.O.B.s. Tough Old Broads! Oh, we had some good laughs. I'll certainly miss her at the high school reunions and please know that she was an inspiration to us all.

Julie,

I knew your Mom and Dad several years ago as we all played tennis @ Raveneaux. I loved them both. Unfortuantely, I moved into Houston and lost contact with your Mom. But I will tell you, she was always a lady. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Julia and family,

I cannot begin to express to you my shock and sadness in learning of Sharry's passing. She was such a mentor to me and a shining example of how life should be lived in spite of our circumstances. I will truly miss knowing she is "among us physically", but I also know where she is now, and she is free of pain and suffering and rejoicing with the Lord and her loved ones that went before her. She will be greatly missed. God bless and comfort you.
