Stephen Dedman Obituary
Following a courageous battle with cancer, STEPHEN W. DEDMAN, JR. passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2003 in the home of his son and daughter-in-law in San Antonio, Texas. He was born September 19, 1921 in Brownwood, Texas to Stephen and Gussie Lee Dedman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 49 years, Frances G. Dedman. He and Frances moved to Baytown in 1946 after his graduation from Texas A&M University, Class of '43, and service in World War II. He began what was to become a distinguished career with Humble Oil at the Baytown Refinery and over the next 40 years held numerous management positions within the Exxon organization, which included the role of Project Executive in charge of the development of Exxon Chemicals' Baytown Olefins Plant (BOP). He was the original Plant Manger of BOP and a lake at this facility is dedicated in his name. He was a resident of Baytown for 35 years before transferring to Denver, Colorado and later to Westfield, New Jersey. He held a number of community leadership roles including the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Kiwanis Club, and Little League Baseball. He was also a founding member of the Goose Creek Country Club. After retirement in 1986, he resided in Kingwood, TX. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Ernie Inmon of West Chester, PA, son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Antoinettte Dedman of San Antonio, TX, his brother Harry Dedman and sister-in-law Johna of Houston, TX and sister-in-law, Lucile Scrutchin of Luling, TX. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Matt and Brian Inmon, and Stephen and Claudia Dedman, 5 neices and nephews, and a host of wonderful friends. The family would like to thank Margie LaFosse, the Hospice of San Antonio, and the care providers of Visiting Angels for all the special love, care and support they provided Steve and his family during his illness. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Baily, Herb Boggess, Cleon Easley, George Ferguson, Ray French, Art Joens, Fred Jones, Jack Smalling, and Bubba Triche. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:30 pm Friday, August 15, 2003 at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook, Baytown, TX. Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, 5520 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood, TX, with Dr. Robert Covington officiating.
