Stuart Rosenthal Obituary

Stuart H. Rosenthal
1941-2018
Stuart H. Rosenthal, M.D. passed away peacefully on October 29, 2018 in Houston, Texas. He was born on February 20, 1941 to loving parents, Esther and Myron Rosenthal, in Detroit, Michigan. His father died when Stuart was only twelve years old, catapulting him into the role of patriarch of the family. He took this responsibility seriously and looked out for them dutifully for the rest of his life. He graduated with honors from the University of Michigan as an undergraduate and University of Michigan Medical School where he also completed a fellowship in rheumatology. He moved to Houston in 1966 to further his medical studies where he met the love of his life, Marjorie Kay. They married in 1967 and shortly after, he served his country in Vietnam. Upon return, they moved to Houston where he became a successful and respected rheumatologist for more than 35 years. He was known as a "doctor's doctor" and was always the smartest person in the room. His vast interests included languages, history, art, science and mathematics. His passion was travel, and he and Margie visited countless countries along with many friends. However, he would say his greatest achievement and joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Margie, and adoring daughters, Suzy Kopel (Greg) and Beth Rosenthal Deutsch (Ben) as well as the pride and joy of his life, his grand daughters, Caroline and Grace Kopel and Kate, Alexandra, and Margot Deutsch. He is also survived by his sister, Ilyse Atema and numerous adoring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marlynn Levin.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 1, 2018, Beth Yeshurun Cemetery, 1037 N. Post Oak Road, Houston.

My Mom, Mary Davis, was a patient of Dr. Rosenthal for many years until her passing in 2006. She LOVED him. He was always very kind to her and always had time to see her even if I had to get her in to see him at a moments notice. My condolences to his family.

My mother, Paula Maloy, was a patient of Dr. Rosenthal's from 1974 until he retired. She often talked about him saving her life with his care and treatment of her severe rheumatoid arthritis, which she had been diagnosed with at age 35. Without him, his knowledge, and his treatment, she would have been crippled and unable to live at home. In 2017 when my parents lived at Colonial Oaks - Westchase, Dr. Rosenthal became a resident there. It was very touching to get to see him when I would come visit my parents there. He was a very kind man with a big heart who did so much for my mother over about a 20 year time span. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dr. Rosenthal's family during this difficult time.
