Thomas Roupe Obituary

Thomas Allen Roupe
04/18/1965 - 01/25/2026
From the moment you met Tom Roupe, you noticed his smile-wide, genuine, and accompanied by a twinkle in his eye. He possessed an effortless charisma and a sharp wit, delivered in a distinctive voice often followed by his knowing laugh. Tom believed deeply in people and generously gave his time as a mentor to many. He admired the underdog, loved books, and was himself a gifted storyteller. He understood the importance of bringing people together and was a true master of connection. At any gathering, people naturally gravitated toward him-eager to listen, laugh, and be together. His presence filled a room-such magnetism-and the energy, humor, and connection he created lingered long after he left it.

Tom grew up in Saratoga, California, where he attended elementary and middle school before going on to The Thacher School. He later graduated from Stanford University in 1987 and Harvard Business School in 1993.

A fifth-generation Californian, Tom loved the sunny outdoor lifestyle of his home state. He excelled in sports throughout his life, including water polo, surfing, tennis, golf, lacrosse, baseball, and pickleball. He was also an avid fan of his local teams, whether in California or Texas.

Tom had a deep appreciation for art and loved visiting museums whenever he traveled. He majored in Art History at Stanford and spent a semester studying in Florence. He was a champion doodler and a passable watercolorist.

Some of Tom's favorite things included red wine, George Booth cartoons, playing poker, motorcycle trips, and other excursions with friends.

Tom spent most of his career in the financial sector, working at companies such as Apple, Xerox, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Aqueduct Capital, Avalon Advisors, and Corient.

Tom was proud of his community work in Houston and served as a Board Director for many organizations, including M.D. Anderson Cancer Center; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; The Texas Heart Institute; the Hispanic Scholarship Fund; and the Alley Theatre. He was also a member of the Council of Overseers at Rice University Jones Graduate School of Business and an Ambassador for The Third Option Foundation, an organization that was especially meaningful to him.

He was a member of several clubs, including River Oaks Country Club, Los Angeles Country Club, The Coronado Club, and Commanderie de Bordeaux.

Although well-traveled, Tom loved nothing more than being with his family-solving crosswords, playing games, barbecuing, and simply spending time together. He was the devoted husband of Jessica and the proud, doting father of Georgia Louise Roupe and Jack Thomas Roupe.

In addition to his wife and children, Tom is survived by his mother, Barbara Doyle Roupe; his sister, Julie (Roupe) Exley; his nieces and nephew, Barbara, Chuck, and Virginia Exley; and his cousin, Mark Thomas Doyle. He was preceded in death by his father, George Allen Roupe.

To his family and closest friends, Tom was our shining light-our ambassador of joy and fun.

Tom will be remembered as a generous, kind, and deeply loyal man. His family and friendships were the most important things in his life. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, especially those who were lucky enough to love him.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at River Oaks Country Club. This gathering will be a time to honor Tom's life, reflect on his legacy, and share the memories that made him so special to us all.

In lieu of flowers, the family would love to collect cherished photos, memories, and stories of Tom and would be deeply grateful if you would share them through the secure link below.

Remembering Thomas Allen Roupe

I´ve been looking through old photos and remembering some really good times with Tom. Sunshine on the Farm. Lacrosse. Tossing the football around. Riding scooters through the pouring rain at night to Jack´s, laughing like it made perfect sense. The Cayman trip and all the craziness that came with it. Even dancing to Wham!, which still makes me smile.
What I remember most is how naturally he drew people in. He was quick-witted, genuinely funny, and made everyone feel part of things. He had an energy that turned even the simplest moments into something memorable.
Life took us in different directions, and over the years we lost touch, as happens. But I always heard about what he went on to do and the life he built. I was genuinely happy for him and always rooting for him from afar.
Knowing he´s gone is hard to take in. It feels like something solid is missing. I´m grateful for the memories we shared when we were young - they´re bright, and they last.
Rest in peace, my friend. You mattered, and you´ll be missed.

Ted

I met Tom in Las Vegas and I never go there since without thinking of him. The meals, the gambling, the laughter. Tom was a bright light anywhere, but Las Vegas shined brighter when he was there. He could solve any problem (sometimes with charm, sometimes with cash). He taught me how to buy one´s way to the front of any line. And I dressed so poorly, he bought me two sports jackets. He was Elvis to me, and going to Las Vegas will never be the same.

The whole Bose family sends its love to our farmer neighbors the Roupes We lost track of Tom when he went to Thatcher and we moved to Sanborn Road. We loved him and the whole Roupe family including their dog who ate all the Easter eggs that were hidden in our back yard. He´s much too young to die. Sincerely, Joan, Rick, Ginger, Will, Brian and Dave
