I have been praying for your family since I heard the news and I will continue to pray as you are forced to endure the grief and realization that Officer Abernethy is now our guardian angel in heaven instead of here on the streets of Houston. Try to focus on the good memories and let God and those of us in the HPD family comfort you. May God bless you all and know that we are grieving with you.

As a Texas peace officer (Houston area) I feel very close to Off. Abernethy because we share the same responcibilites. I feel a deep loss inside even though I never met him. As a fact, most of the fallen officers in the recent past I have never met. I know he is in a better place protecting heaven. God bless the family and friends he left behind and know he did what he loved regardless of the risks to protect the rest of us. My hand is at full salute Bro.

To the family members of Tim Abernethy,
No words can express the sorrow that many feel about Tim's loss. He was a true hero and respected by many people in our community. Being in a police family it hits home when something tragic happens to any police officer. Your family has been in my thoughts since Sunday. In the days and years ahead, may you all be blessed with the strength to accept this tremendous loss and move forward with your lives.
With Sincere Sympathy

To the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Timothy Abernethy, please accept our condolences during this time of loss. We stand in prayer with you, your entire family and circle of friends for the comforting ministry of the Holy Spirit to be with us all at this moment and especially in any challenging moments in the future. Having family members and friends employed by HPD, HFD and other law enforcement agencies, this is when moments get very difficult. We hope that you find comfort in knowing that Officer Abernethy served as the common denominator that helped to shape many lives. May God continue to bless and strengthen us all is our prayer.

I believe that GOD'S chosen are chosen for a purpose that we might never understand. HE has a need for Timothy Abernathy that we may never know. Officer Abernathy's death is tragic, horrifying, and senseless. We know that this wonderful husband, father, son, and brother gave his life to keep all of us living in Houston safe, protected, and served. He is a hero in my book.
My prayers are with his family, friends, and brothers and sisters of the HPD. We must do whatever it takes to make our police officers safe, and I wholeheartedly agree with Officer Rodney Johnson's widow that each patrol car should have two officers for safety reasons.
Psalm 27 (King James Version)
The LORD is My Light and My Salvation
27
The LORD is my light and my savation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and foes came [1] upon me to eat my flesh, they stumbled and fell. 3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this I be confident. 4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty [2] of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. 5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavillion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. 6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: threrefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; [3] I will sing, yea, I will sing praises to the LORD.

May all your family and friends be eternally blessed and comforted. God be with all of His sincere servants.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Having a spouse who works in dangerous enviornments is enough in itself. The passion that Mr. Abernathy had for his job meant so much to many people. One can truly believe that there was a sense of security whenever he was protecting our streets.
Our hearts and blessings go out to the Abernethy family. I was in disbelief how such a courageous man was a victim doing his job. May GOD continue to provide you with his everlasting LOVE even during these trying times.
