Wade Calvert Obituary

Wade Lee Calvert
1973-2018
Calvert, Wade Lee. Born November 26, 1973 in Houston, TX, he went home to Jesus on Sunday December 23, 2018. He is preceded in death by grandparents Edwin Carlos and Annie Marie Calvert; grandparents Grady Clem and Ola Fay Blackmon Lee; grandfather Lewis Thompson Knight; and mother-in-law Patty Kreitz. Wade is survived by wife Courtney Kreitz Calvert and their two daughters, Lainey L. and Charley K. Calvert of Houston, TX; his father Michael R. and Mrs. Nancy B. Calvert of Houston, TX; mother Mary Raynell Lee of Houston, TX; father-in-law Don Kreitz of Houston, TX; grandmother Clara Beth Knight, Dallas TX; his brother Jeff M. Calvert, along with wife Mia, and their children Peyton and Emily of Houston, TX; sister Holly Calvert Evans, along with husband Jason, and their children Reese, Carly and Tanner of Atascadero, CA; and brother David M. Billingsley of San Antonio, TX.

Wade was born in Houston, TX, the greater metropolitan area he would call home for the entirety of his life, save the years he spent attending Texas A&M in College Station, TX. Growing up in Missouri City, TX, Wade and his family attended the Westbury Church of Christ and the Quail Valley Community Church. Wade was baptized in December 1985 at First Colony Church of Christ, a church the Calvert family participated in establishing. Wade would tell you accepting Christ as his savior was the most important decision he made and the most important thing he did.

An exemplary athlete, Wade was a multisport participant at John Foster Dulles High School in Sugar Land, TX. He lettered in golf—the sport he adored; track—the sport he appeased his coaches by doing; and football—the sport at which he most excelled. In 1991, Wade captained the defense on the Dulles Vikings' 5A Division I State Championship Finalist. That team would start the season 15-0 before falling to Killeen High School in the championship game at the Astrodome. Wade was named 1st-Team All-Greater Houston Area at middle linebacker. Wade was a 7 handicap as a golfer, and golf was the love of his sporting life. Also an avid outdoorsman, Wade loved to frequently hunt and fish, participating and placing in much-beloved team fishing competitions.

Following his graduation from Dulles, Wade earned two degrees from Texas A&M in College Station, TX. He graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor's degree in Business, and he returned to complete his Master's in Business Administration in 2002. While at A&M, Wade was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity.

After graduation, Wade spent his working years in the Energy sector. He learned the OpenLink software program, and he formed his own company, WLC Consulting. Wade worked with Shell Energy and Citigroup before joining Koch Industries full-time.

In 2005, Wade married Courtney Kreitz and became a father to Lainey in 2010, Charley in 2013. Being a father to Lainey and Charley was the crowning achievement of Wade's life and the only legacy he cared about. His devotion to his daughters was beautiful.

Wade's life was marked by his determination. It was his defining characteristic. Whether in sports, his career, or in raising his daughters, Wade was utterly unswerving in his resolve. Wade was enthusiastic, he was energetic, and he was driven to compete to do his best. He had an incredible heart for his friends and tremendous loyalty to all he embraced. If you became Wade's friend, you stayed Wade's friend. He was fierce in his friendship. He gave often and generously. He had a self-deprecating humor and preferred for his friends to receive the spotlight rather than himself.

A memorial service for Wade will be held at the First Colony Church of Christ in Sugar Land, TX at 1:00p on Saturday January 5, 2019. Wade requested, upon his passing, in lieu of flowers, for any memorials in his name to be sent to benefit the Pediatric Cancer division at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. St. Jude provides all care at no cost to the children treated there. In his own fight with cancer, Wade saw the costs associated and desired for children and their families to receive assistance.

Wade Lee Calvert was my precious nephew. I had the privilege and joy of loving him from the time he was born. He and my middle son were born only 21 days apart. Very early in their lives those two cousins formed a bond that was never broken. They worked, played, hunted, and even started college together. Through the years, Wade was a strong, faithful, generous, and loving presence in the life of our very close family. We loved him dearly. We all miss him. We know he is with GOD. And he will also remain forever in our hearts.

Dear Wade, you may be "away" now, but in our hearts you are very much here. Love truly is eternal and transcends time and space, for it is the essence of God's gift to us, that which is Him in us. Wade, you gave your girls, your parents, families and friends your gift of abiding love for them and it glows in our hearts just as warmly now and will until we are back together again. Your shy smile and humility remain as vivid reminders of how happy we will be when back together forever and forever. Love you, dear boy, and give thanks to God for you. -Stanton

Sad... I have just lost such a good friend. Worked with Wade at Citi and Shell for many years. A great guy, always positive and patient. He left me a lot of memory of lunch talks and fishing stories. May God bless the family.

My heart is so sadden to hear of the passing of Wade. I worked with him at Shell. An awesome soul he truly was that I will never forget. He always spoke of his two girls and how adventurous they were and you could tell they were truly the highlight of his life. Always made time when needing his assistance or just had a question that needed answering. Great example of Kindness and Patience! My prayers for peace, comfort and understanding to his entire family during this time.

Sincerely
