Wade Simoneaux Obituary

Wade Justin Simoneaux, a child of God, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, the 23rd of September 2012, after losing his sixteen-year battle against ALS - he is at peace and completely healed. Born on the 27th of March 1976, in Houston, Wade is a fourth-generation native Houstonian, but was also proud of his Cajun heritage.
A 1994 graduate of St. Thomas High School in Houston, he played baseball for the Eagles. Wade attended the University of St. Thomas; in 1996, he transferred to St. Edward's University, Austin, fulfilling his dream to play college baseball, and was awarded his varsity letter. Wade was diagnosed with ALS on Valentine's Day 1997 just six weeks shy of his 21st birthday. After graduation in 1998, Wade became an assistant baseball coach at his Alma Mater, St. Thomas High School; he was part of the Eagles 2001 State Championship Team. Next to the birth of his nephews, it was his proudest moment. Wade became passionate about finding a cure for ALS never wanting another 20-year-old to be diagnosed with ALS. With a group of family and friends, Wade founded Batter Up for an ALS Cure in 1999. Every dollar raised is donated to ALS research. At Wade's untimely death, he was planning Batter Up's fall event that was to be held at Minute Maid Park on October 10, 2012.
Wade is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jean and Fred Luce; paternal grandparents, Wallace J. Simoneaux and Mildred Hebert Spaniel; and by his uncle, Jay Simoneaux.
Wade is survived by his loving family: father, Darrell J. Simoneaux; mother and father by marriage, Janet Luce and John Carrigan; brother and sister by marriage, David and Katie Simoneaux; his beloved nephews, Justin and Ryan Simoneaux; and a host of family and friends.
The family would also like to thank Lucinda Handy for her loving care of Wade - she was more than a care-giver, she was Wade's friend and confidant.
Wade's family has been uplifted by all of the prayers offered on Wade's behalf.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock this afternoon until eight o'clock this evening, Tuesday, the 25th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commense at seven o'clock.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to offered at ten o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 26th of September, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Road in Houston.
The Rite of Committal is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Wade's charities of choice: Batter Up for an ALS Cure, P.O. Box 55666, Houston, TX, 77255; St. Thomas High School Scholarship Fund, 4500 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX, 77007; The Methodist Hospital, Methodist Neurological Institute, MDA/ALS Research Fund, 6560 Fannin St., Ste. 802, Houston, TX, 77030.

This prayer by Monsignor John Voight reminds me of Wade

Oh God, giver of all life, give me the grace to received my particular life as a gift~

accepting its limitations without whining, bearing my successes and failure lightly~

knowing there are there are within me questions without answers, terrors without name, hurts without relief ~

but knowing also there is love unused, strength unspent, justice undone, beauty unexpressed~

and we must get on with it.
