Walter Mosley Obituary

Walter Ernest "Doc" Mosley
1923-2018
Walter "Doc" Mosley passed away Saturday, January 20th in Katy, Texas at the age of 94, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born November 22, 1923 in Axtell, Texas to J.B. and Maggie Mosley and spent his childhood in the Waco area. After serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII, he moved to Houston and married his wife of 68 years, Mildred Pruett Mosley. They became pillars of the Northshore community and were charter members of Uvalde Baptist Church where Doc was a deacon, sang in the choir, and served on just about every committee there was at one time or another. He loved all things sports related, including coaching his sons in baseball and going to as many sporting events as possible. He even got to see his beloved Astros win the World Series last fall. His passion, however, was golf. After retiring from Armco Steel in 1982, he was able to play several days a week all over the Houston area and made many friends in the golfing community. He was swinging a club up until just a few weeks ago. Those who knew Doc speak of his intelligence, integrity and his strong Christian faith and values. He was admired by many, feared by some, but respected by all and always willing to lend a helping hand or a strong voice. He is survived by his wife Mildred Mosley; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike & Theresa Mosley, Gary & Paula Mosley; daughter & son-in-law, Sandra & Charlie Janak; grandchildren, Chase Janak & wife Athena, Taylor Janak & wife, Kara, Matthew Mosley, Jackson Mosley, Gabriel Mosley and Grace Mosley; step-grandson, Shawn Janak & wife, Iracema; brother, Gene Mosley; brothers-in-law, Gerald Pruett and Glen Pruett; sister-in-law, Patsy Deweber; numerous nieces and nephews (he was "Uncle Doc" to many) and countless friends who admired and adored him. Visitation and Services will be held at Uvalde Baptist Church, 901 Uvalde Rd. Houston TX 77015 on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and Services celebrating his life starting at 11:00 a.m. The family suggests that contributions be made in his memory to Uvalde Baptist Church Benevolence Fund. He will be laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Conley Funeral Home.
