Dear Jean & Ashley;

My sympathies are with you at this time. I hope you won't be offended but someone sent me Bill's obituary as they know I am an avid Vining genealogist. If and when you feel up to it would you please send me more information on Bill's family. Do you know the names of his grandparents? As Bill was from the south, we are probably related. My father's family were Southerners from NC, SC, TN,AL. and GA.

Take care, Cyndy

Mrs. Vining, Ashley, Curt, and Nicholas,
One of my fondest memories of Mr. Vining from growing up is how he used to look at you with a straight face and completely pull your leg with that dry sense of humor. He will be missed. You have our prayers and know that we send hugs your way!
Love,
Gretchen, Mark, Joshua, and Timothy Buchanan

Aunt Jean and Ashley - my heart is with you this week and I have thought of both of you often. Remember the good times when you are sad. I remember a blessing at the dinner table one time after dinner was over by Uncle Bill. We will miss him. Love, Cheryl

In addition to working together at Brown & Root, Bill & I shared an office at U of H in the late 80s when B&R ran out of work. This was a vastly different environment from that of the engineering and construction world and, for a variety of excellent reasons, we designated our official song to be “O God Our Help in Ages Past.” As not everyone appreciated our humor, one morning Bill plopped down and announced that he’d determined that the words of the hymn fit the tune of “Pop Goes the Weasel,” thereby enabling us to hum or whistle our theme song as required without offending. There was only one of Bill.

At last he’s free of the body that betrayed him. That incredible mind can fly free, but we’re still mortal and it hurts. Jean and Ashley, you know I grieve with you. Bill was one of the dearest friends I’ve ever had—a brilliant, funny, honorable, caring, generally wonderful human being. He loved you both so much and was so proud you. I know too well how hard this is; I’ll be there when you need a shoulder. Just remember that real love stories have no ending.
