Daniel J. Schuster

Manitowoc - Daniel J. Schuster, age 82 of Manitowoc died early Saturday morning, January 13, 2018 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center of Green Bay.

Dan was born on December 27, 1935 in the town of Kossuth, son of Emil and Anna (Cigler) Schuster. He grew up in the town of Kossuth attending the Meadowbrook School and graduating from Mishicot High School in 1953. Dan served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 until 1957. On May 31, 1958 Dan was married to Arlene A. Halla at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. He was employed at Kelvinator in Manitowoc for over 30 years and retired from Burger Boat in Manitowoc.

Dan was an alderman for the City of Manitowoc from 1971 until 1991 during which time he served as Council President. He also served on the Manitowoc Library Board, Lakeshore Development Bureau, Wisconsin Maritime Museum where he was presented the Henry R. Schuette Award. In the past he was a member of the Manitowoc Jaycees, a 50-year member of the Manitowoc Eagles Aerie# 706, First Lutheran Church where he served as Church Council President, Pastoral Call Committee and sang in the church choir for nearly 60 years. Dan enjoyed a longtime membership in the Wisconsin Czechs Club, a 19-gallon blood donor for the Manitowoc Blood Center and a member of the Amvets Post #99 of Manitowoc.

Dan was always such a positive person with a fun-loving personality who enjoyed making people smile.

Survivors include his wife: Arlene Schuster, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Jon (Janet) Schuster, Manitowoc; one granddaughter: Ellie Schuster, Manitowoc; one sister-in-law: Anne Halla, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Emil and Anna Schuster; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Anne (Clarence) Habeck; Carol (Walter) Miske.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, 521 North 8th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Roald Harswick will officiate with cremation haven already taken place. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Military Honors will be accorded at the church by Amvets Post #99 of Manitowoc. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Dan's name. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements. Arlene, I'm so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. You and your family have lost a loving husband and we've all lost a great friend. Dan was a true gentleman, kind, friendly and with a ready smile. We'll miss him. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you in the difficult days ahead.

I enjoyed visiting with Dan & Arlene when giving them communion. He was a wonderful member of our church family & will be greatly missed. He now lives in his heavenly home where we will meet him again.
