Gary Free Obituary
Gary A. Free, age 61 of 1405 Columbus Street, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 2, 2014 at his residence.
Gary was born on August 19, 1952 in Manitowoc son of Helen (Fictum) Free and the late Harold Free. He was a 1970 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Gary worked for the city of Manitowoc at the waste water treatment facility from 1971 until retiring in 2012. He was a member of AFSCME Local #731 of Manitowoc and he served the union in several positions in the past. Gary enjoyed hunting and was very active in several local conservation organizations.
His family meant everything to Gary and there was nothing he enjoyed more than having his kids and grandkids with him. The entire family is so grateful that in Gary's last days he had all his family around him.
Survivors include his three sons and daughters-in-law: Jason (Marcia) Free, Appleton; Joshua (Michele) Free, Manitowoc; Benjamin (Maria) Free, Oshkosh; one step-daughter: Kathryn Santana, Manitowoc; eight beloved grandchildren: McKenzie; Brayden; Cassidy; Nicholas; Landon; Amaya; Gage; Zane; his mother: Helen Free, Manitowoc; one sister and brother-in-law: Debbie (Arthur) Lange, Two Rivers; mother of his children: Diane (Dueno) Free, Manitowoc; his mother-in-law: Geneva Dueno, Manitowoc; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his father: Harold Free, one brother: Daniel Free, and his father-in-law: Walter Dueno.
Memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 South 8th Street, Manitowoc with Mark Knipp officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:30 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.jensreinboldandpfeffer.com
