Gerald Werner Obituary

Gerald J. Werner, 74, Marshfield, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 11, 2022 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 18, 2022 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. A visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time, and the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 9:00 am. Rev. James Weighner will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Gerald was born on October 11, 1947 in Marshfield, to Walter and Mary (Becher) Werner.
He was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from June 19, 1969 until his honorable discharge June 18, 1971.
He married Phyllis M. Staab on June 23, 1973 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield.
He worked for Bell Laboratories in Illinois for two decades, then moved back to Marshfield where he spent the rest of his career as a security analyst for the Marshfield Clinic.
An outdoor enthusiast, Gerald loved backpacking in the Rocky Mountains, camping with his family, and riding his recumbent bike. He served for many years as a Scout leader and loved to tell stories of portaging canoes through the Boundary Waters. An avid ham radio operator, Gerald's call was WB9WBN. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis and their children, Dawn Wright of Seattle, WA, Ann Werner and Douglas Werner, both of Marshfield and his grandson, Ian Wright. He is also survived by his siblings, Paul (Kathi) Werner, Michael (Ruby) Werner, and Eugene (Brenda) Werner, Marian (John) Kramp, Dolores (Steve) Sternweis and Lois (Rick) Werner, all of Marshfield and a brother-in-law, Richard Hoffmann of Stevens Point.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janet Hoffmann.
Memorials may be designated to Boy Scout Troop 385.
