Janet Steele Obituary

boise - Our beloved Mother, Wife and Grammy, Janet K. (Headley) Steele, passed away July 13th, 2025 peacefully in her sleep after complications from a stroke she suffered on July 4th. She received great care from her medical team and was able to say goodbye to her husband, children and grandchildren prior to her passing

She was born on June 16, 1939 and grew up in the small town of Galva, Illinois. She met the love of her life, Jim Steele, on a blind date in Denver, Colorado and were soon married on November 4th, 1961. Their marriage spanned 63 years and was filled with adventures, friends and many lively games of gin rummy and dominoes. They had a true passion for travel, having visited 120+ countries and all seven continents in their lifetime together. Jan had a special place in her heart for England, having visited there many times traveling throughout its beautiful countryside. She and Jim celebrated their combined 165th birthdays together there at their cherished Beetle and Wedge with their children, grandchildren and many US and English friends. She even chose to celebrate her 60th birthday by her incredible accomplishment of hiking the entire 192 mile long Alfred Wainwright Coast to Coast trail across England. She also had a deep love for San Francisco, where they have owned a second home for many years. Sitting in her cozy chair by the window, listening to the fog horns was one of her happiest of places. Her greatest joy in life though was being with her family. She hosted countless family gatherings showcasing her gourmet cooking and flair for entertainment, creating cherished memories that we will always hold dear. She had many lifelong friends with whom she shared her sense of humor, wit and intelligence. Jan was a lifelong, diehard Raiders fan. She was able to attend several games and even sat in the "Black Hole" section of the stadium where she was with "her friends" - her fellow Raider fanatics. Jan had a passion for books, crossword puzzles, good food, ice-cold martinis, her friends and most of all, her family. She was loved by so many and will be missed greatly. May she rest in peace after a well lived life. Jan is survived by her husband, Jim Steele, daughter Lisa Steele and her life partner, Chris Halvorson, Jenny Kallas and her husband, Rick Kallas, and son James Steele, and his wife Christin Steele as well as 8 grandchildren, Alex, Nicholas and Sophia Kallas, William Overstreet and his wife Makayla Overstreet, Olivia Maria and her husband Stephen Maria, Ethan Overstreet, Sam Steele, Madeline Quates and husband Caleb Quates and their daughter, Jan's first Great Grandchild, Katie Quates. At Jan's request, a private service was held for close family members at the Cathedral of the Rockies on July 18th, 2025. She was laid to rest at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on July 21st. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Women's and Children's Alliance in Boise, Idaho, or a favorite charity.
