I first met Father John in 1975 on a 10 day Holy Year Pilgrimage to Rome with Bishop Trienen and 80 members of the Catholic Diocese. His sense of humor, fun loving attitude, and kindness and the fact that our birthdays are the same month and day drew me to him. Every evening about 10 of us would gather in the Hotel lounge, have a drink or two, and discuss our adventures that day in Rome. I was 29, my first trip to Europe, and had heard many stories of the Italian men pinching American women. I jokingly made it a regret and disappointment that another day had gone by without my being pinched. As we were boarding the bus to take us to the airport to return home, Father Morgan pinched me. He didn't want me leaving Italy disappointed!
I will never forget that first trip to Rome, sharing our wonderful experiences, laughter, fun, and friendship. I know you are resting in the arms of our Lord.
