Leona Nix Obituary

Leona L. Nix
November 23, 1932 - December 29, 2017
Leona Lucille (Lee) Nix, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of December 29, 2017. Family will receive friends Friday evening, January 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Dakan Chapel with burial to follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Friends are invited to a reception immediately following at Caldwell Elk's Lodge. Condolences may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com
Leona was born in Bow Creek, Kansas on November 23, 1932, and grew up working on the family farm with her four sisters in nearby Logan, Kansas. Her childhood instilled an impressive work ethic and inner strength that always remained a part of her. She moved to Seattle where she worked for the Bell Telephone company for many years. Leona moved to Caldwell in 1972 to continue working for the telephone company. The Caldwell community truly became her home, and she worked for both Canyon County and the city of Caldwell later in life.
A very sociable and energetic person, Leona was at her happiest on the golf course or meeting with friends. She endeared herself to those around her through her kind and caring personality. Throughout her entire life, she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Passionate and opinionated, Leona had a wealth of knowledge and was not afraid to let people know what she thought. A conversation with her was never boring, and brought joy to so many.
She was preceded in death by her father Everett McClurg, mother Opal Mae Nichol, sisters Mildred McClurg, May Nielsen, Dorie Hicks, and husband Billy Nix.
Leona is survived by her daughters, Linda (Chuck) Knox and Michelle Weitz; son, Patrick (Jill) Nix; grandchildren, Sarah Weitz, Philip Weitz, Derrick Knox and Dillon Knox; step-grandchild, Amy Ferguson; and sister, Wanda Burker.

Such a wonderful person. I got to know her when I lived on Robert Avenue. A happy, positive kind soul. Then when I took up golf I remet her much to my delight. She was a great role model. Beautiful inside and out. My condolences to her family from Mary and Ted Colwell.

I was Leona's mailman for 18 years. She was one of the nicest customers I ever delivered mail to. I enjoyed talking to her and seeing her dog Bobo whenever I had to go to the door with a package. She will be greatly missed! We need more people like Leona in this world.

Leona will be remembered as one of the most genuinely nice persons that we have ever met. Always a joy to be around both on and off the golf course. She will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. She was one special lady. She will be missed by so many, but I know my mom and Marky will have their dear golfing buddy back and things will never be the same on the golf courses in heaven. With love and prayers to you as you try to move forward, Lori Osgood Schmitt

When I think of Leona I remember not only a friend but also a life's teacher. We worked together at the City of Caldwell and she taught me how to golf among other things in life. I've become a better person because she came into my life. God bless her soul and her beautiful family she left behind. Dennis and I extend our condolences to all the family. God bless all of you too at this time of great sorrow. Dennis and Josette
