Stephen Drescher Obituary

Meridian - Stephen Wesley Drescher was born on September 9, 1949 in Alton, Illinois. As the only child of Richard Drescher and Jane Hartshourne Drescher, Steve enjoyed academics and athletics, alike. He developed a love for golf, playing often alongside his father, and shared an enduring bond with his mother.

Though he served as his Alton High School class president, it was at Western Illinois University where he became passionate about the law. Steve fondly remembered his time as an undergraduate and often recounted memories as a Bulldog. After graduating, he continued his education at Saint Louis University School of Law and went on to start his career providing Legal Aid. It was around this time, that Steve met Constance Taylor. In 1976, after travelling to Idaho to visit college friends, the two threw caution to the wind, quitting their jobs, moving to the (then) small farm town of Nampa, Idaho, and marrying at Ada County Courthouse.

Together, Steve and Connie had two children: Anna and Robert. Anna and Rob remember him as a loving and doting father. Steve was involved in the academic and athletic activities of both his children; he was a father who took great pride in hard work and honesty. Like his father before him, he passed on his love of golf to Rob. The two spent countless time traveling, playing, and watching golf together.

Steve had an enduring commitment to community service, spending years volunteering for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Idaho, Idaho Humane Society, and various community organizations, such as Paint the Town.

Later in life, Connie and Steve divorced, and Steve married Cassandra Gray. They were married for several years, and spent their time travelling, attending concerts, and enjoying each other's humor.

Upon first impressions, Steve seemed a serious and intimidating presence (one might find a pocket dictionary useful when conversing with him), yet those who were able to know him well, reveled in his kindness, tender heart, and dry humor delivered with a smooth drawl and a sparkle in his eyes. In fact, Steve was a self-proclaimed entertainer with such comedic timing, he often spoke of becoming a stand-up comedian. Alas, a career in law won out. Steve enjoyed a long career, serving as an assistant D.A., magistrate judge, private practice attorney, and finished his career as a district judge in the Third Judicial District of Idaho.

On July 5, 2021, Steven was rejoined with his cherished parents. He is survived by his loving daughter, Anna; son-in-law, Brent Van Vliet; grandchildren, Annika and Hugo; son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Nicole Drescher; and his best four-legged friend, Meeso.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11 am at Flahiff Funeral Chapels, 624 Cleveland Blvd, Caldwell, Idaho. Following services, there will be a luncheon held at the funeral chapel. Friends can share a memories of Stephen at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.

Anna and Rob,
I just found out Steve passed this last July. I am deeply saddened as he was a great boss and friend. He was always so patient and kind to me when I became a legal secretary and worked for him at Hamilton, Clark, Michaelson and Drescher. I had the opportunity to spend a little time with him after he retired. I was blessed to call him boss and friend. He is now at peace and with our Lord.
Love
