Tom Scott Obituary

Born May 17, 1929
Died July 3, 2009
Tom was born in Albany, Ore., to Floyd M Scott and Avis (Langmack) Scott. He attended school in Albany and continued his education at The University of Oregon and Vanport College, which later became Portland State.
In 1953 Tom eloped with Juanita Louise Reitz. They were married in Reno, Nev. Tom and Nita had five children: Joe, Dick, Jack, Maria and Margaret.
The family continued to live in Oregon where Tom pumped gas for a Chevron service station and later became the owner of his own station. His station did the service work for the Meryl Taylor Volkswagen dealer in Albany and after a short time Tom went to work for the Volkswagen dealership as the used cars sales manager. In two years Tom became the sales manager for the dealership. Meryl Taylor suggested that Tom consider starting his own dealership so Tom along with Meryl bought a vacant lot and started the Mazda/Subaru dealership in Albany. In 1971 Tom had opportunity to open a dealership in Nampa, so he sold out in Oregon and moved his family to Nampa.
He opened the Mazda/Subaru dealership on 11th Avenue and over the years the dealership has grown to include Toyota and Honda auto malls.
Tom was an outdoorsman enjoying shooting, riding motorcycles and exploring the Owyhee Mountain area of south Idaho. He enjoyed music, taking pictures, good cigars, telling stories and making people happy.
Family and friends were very important to Tom and over the years his family has grown to include the husbands and wives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tom lost Nita to cancer in 1994. On June 20, 2002, Tom married Jeanne Brown and added her three sons, Greg M Brown, Caldwell, J. Richard Brown, Madrid, Spain and Mark A. Brown, Palm Springs, Calif., to his family.
Tom and Jeanne have enjoyed the last seven years traveling and enjoying their extended family.
Tom leaves his wife Jeanne, children Joe (Roberta), Nampa; Dick (Dee Dee), Boise; Jack (Anita), Meridian; Maria (Scott) McDonald, Nampa; and Margaret (DH) Moss, Star; grandchildren Avis, Danny, Jessica, Zach, Taylor, Nick, Caleb, Clifford and Jeremiah; brother Robert (Joanne) and nephew Floyd of Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family requests memorials be made to the Boys & Girls Club, Nampa or Make-A-Wish.
Correspondence remembering Tom may be directed to [email protected] A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the Nampa Civic Center.
Cremation is under the direction of the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel.

Very sorry to hear of Tom's passing. We always debated who should be called Tom. I met Tom through the Harley group and really enjoyed riding with him to Yuma and back. What a character and so sincere. Also so humble and unpretentious. He was a great man to know and I'm glad I had the opportunity.

My favorite memories of Tom go back to 1989 when I met him for the first time. He walked up to me and said Hi, I'm Tom, and then asked if I liked licorice. I'll always remember Tom's kindness and his jokes. I thank Tom and the Scott family for allowing me into their lives. Lots of great memories.

I will remember Tom as someone who enjoyed life. He had a smile that made you feel welcome and when he laughed you just naturally joined in. My sympathy to all the family.

I met Tom 16 years ago when I first moved to Boise and he was always the nicest and most sincre gentleman I have ever met. He would always take the time to say hello whenever I walked into his dealerships. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Tom was one of the kindest men I've known. After purchasing a car from him many years ago, he always remembered my name and had a kind word for me when I ran into him at the Post Office where I worked or around town. He was truly a gentle soul and will be dearly missed.
My prayers are with his family.

I remember my Uncle Tom always with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye! I only wish I had more time to get to know him better.

I know he treated my Aunt Jeanne with a lot of love and respect. They were great companions and I'm so sad that their time together was so short.

I'm sorry I can't attend Uncle Tom's memorial service. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

God Bless,

If we could bring you back for one more hour or day, we’d express all our unspoken respect and admiration and we’d have countless things to talk about. We would treasure your wisdom,
and know that your presence in our lives touched us so much more than we knew and you would know how much you will be missed.

Our prayers are with you Margaret and DH and all the Scott Family.

Tom and Nita extended generosity to me that has never been forgotten. For a short 3 months in 1979/1980 I was an invited guest in their home. I was treated warmly. I could never have planned a better transition from my own home out into the world. That brief stop with the Scott's was a time I still cherish. Thanks Tom, and Scott Family.

Tom was always kind, gentle and soft spoken. Lending good advice and wisdom when called upon. He treated me with great respect and concern always and for that, among other reasons... I shall remember and love Tom always. Bonnie Scott

I enjoyed knowing Tom and Nita as a banker friend. Had many good lunches together, and enjoyed his humor, and interesting trips he took in relation to his car dealerships. A good man.

Tom was one of a kind. He went with us on our early spring motorcycle rides to Yuma every year. He was a great friend and a very fair person to do business with. He will be missed but not forgotten.
