Dear Aunt Bert! How I will miss you. I am so thankful for all of the many years of memories. Some of my earliest memories are of going to North Wilkesboro and spending the weekend. I will always remember you and Mom sitting at the table late into the night talking while me and my dad sat with Uncle Henry in the living room, watching TV shows like the Dukes of Hazzard and the Incredible Hulk to name a few. TV shows changed with the years, but the routine was always the same with you and Mom talking late Into the night, catching up and sharing memories. I always remember the wonderful meals you prepared and how you would always fix my favorite "lumpy mashed potatoes".
I'll always remember the fun we had going to yard sales and on picnics to the Blue Ridge Parkway and walking to the little Baptist church at the end of the street when we stayed over on Sundays. Even as I got older and was able to drive I would still come just by myself and we would have a good time together. That little house on Odell Street was definitely a second home to me. I'm so glad that on a visit to us in Virginia you got to see my first home as we were fixing it up before I got married and we moved into it.
So many good memories and not enough space to share them all!

One thing I'll always remember as a child and as the years went on was the saddest time of our visits - when we had to part and head back to Virginia back to to work and to school. It never got easier as the years went on. I always dreaded it as a kid as I knew it was coming. We would all say "goodbye" and "see you soon" as we headed to the car, and as my dad would slowly back out I would always look back and you would be in the doorway, waving with a tear in your eye. Well, now it is us who wave goodbye to you as you have gone to your heavenly home. It Is us who have a tear in our eyes, but we do not weep as those who have no hope. We know that we will see you again. I hope that you and Mom are somewhere in a comfortable corner of Heaven seated at a table catching up and having a great conversation.

She will be forever missed. She was mamaw, and her home was the only stable home her grandkids had growing up. She was always cooking and I was always in the kitchen watching. When I would get in the way she would give me the pot lids and I would sit in the floor and spin them like tops. I remember when microwaves were new we would spend friday nights watching dukes of hazzard and eating microwave popcorn. It became a tradition almost. Too many good memories. A funny one though,,, most homes back then only had one or two tvs at the most. I was so into Atari and Nintendo at the time. All the grown ups despised the sounds and noises it made so they bought a tv and set up a gaming area in the half finished basement. Yes it was half dirt and the furnace gave me nightmares but I didnt care. I'd play video games for hours and didnt care one bit that I was banished. After a while I'd hear her call out, "Jamie, time for lunch", or dinner depending on the time of day. Life on Odell st was much more simple than the alternative. This pic was a time before life became even more complex. Mamaw was our rock and it broke my heart when she moved 2000 miles away, but being a parent now I understand how important it is to be with your kids. I love you mamaw and hope you and papaw are having a party.
