Charles Fields Obituary

Charles Wesley Fields, 88 year old Blackfoot resident, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Idaho Falls from complications of kidney failure.

He was born July 4, 1936, in Vale, Malheur County, Oregon, the son of Charles Warren Fields and Violet Lavell Nelson Fields. He grew up in Vale, Oregon where he graduated from Vale High School in 1954. He attended college at Boise State University, Eastern Oregon University in La Grange and also BYU. In September 1962 he began working for First Security Bank where he worked and managed in various towns in Idaho and retired in 1999.

On May 2, 1958 he married Mary Margaret Jenkins in Vale, Oregon. They enjoyed nearly 26 years of marriage together until Mary's untimely passing. On June 1, 1984 he married Carol VanOrden and they have enjoyed their last 40 years together by traveling, attending the temples all over the country, spending time with their family and serving a mission together in Anaheim, California.

Wes was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to serve in any capacity. He was a lifetime member of the Lion's Club and acted as treasurer for many years. He enjoyed taking walks around Jensens Grove and was a big movie buff. He will be remembered as being a very patient and kind person to everyone he was around.

He is survived by his wife Carol, his children Clark Fields of Blackfoot, Idaho, Tony (Robyn) Fields of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Terri (Wade) Trost of St. Anthony, Idaho, his step children Lonny (Patty) Smith of Blackfoot, Idaho, Marty (Maria) Smith of Pocatello, Idaho, Nancy Simmons of Rigby, Idaho and Joanna (Clete) Marlow of Blackfoot, his brother Dave (Audrey) Fields of Waldport, Oregon, his sister-in-law Barbe (Bob) Gibson of Lincoln City, Oregon, 26 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Margaret Fields, his parents Charles and Violet Fields, his in-laws, Richard and Helen Jenkins, his daughter-in-law Leisa Cox Fields, his stepson Barry Smith, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Blackfoot Stake Center, 1650 Highland Drive in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot and again on Saturday at the church for an hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Groveland Cemetery.

Wes lived across the highway when I was a teen and later ran across each again in Rupert. He and Carol was great friends and a loving couple.
