Daniel Farris Obituary

Daniel Farris
September 1, 1948 - October 24, 2014
Our loving father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Daniel Hugh Farris passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 in Pocatello, Idaho at the age of 66.
Danny was born September 1, 1948 in Caldwell, Idaho to Elvin Hubert Farris and Lavena May Hopkins Farris. He was the oldest of four sons. Dan attended schools in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1967. He enjoyed playing many sports in his childhood years, including baseball, football, basketball and golf and was a good athlete, devoted to doing his best at them. This guy could toss out a mean pitch when he played softball later on with his kids. Dan also played on bowling leagues with good friends and family for many years. He often talked excitedly about hunting and fishing that included catching salmon in the ocean with his Grandpa Shorty, nailing a huge sturgeon with his cousin, Andy, and hunting ducks and geese with his brother, Kevin. Of course, we cannot forget his love for westerns, his favorite actor John Wayne, and the Boise State Broncos!
Dan married Sharon Elaine Korn September 20, 1969, and they had two daughters. Dan worked for the Boise Project Board of Control In Caldwell for about seven years and then worked for Union Pacific Fruit Express in Nampa. He and Sharon were later divorced. Dan continued with UPFE in Nampa, and then transferred to Pocatello, Idaho and North Platte, Nebraska. He retired from UPFE in North Platte in September 2010, and moved to Boise as he had bought a home there. Grandpa Dan was living in Pocatello for the last year, enjoying his three grandchildren and being near his two daughters.
Dan is survived by his two daughters, Regina Marie Masak and husband Dwight, Alyssa Danielle Moldenhauer and husband Andy; grandchildren Bodhi Moldenhauer, Dita Masak and Brekken Moldenhauer; his parents Elvin and Lavena Farris of Boise; and two brothers, Kevin Farris of Boise and David Farris of Caldwell. Dan also has five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Farris, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A private service with immediate family was held at Colonial Funeral Home Tuesday, October 28 with Father John Worster of Holy Spirit Catholic Community presiding with a family blessing and service. There will be an open house "Celebration of His Life" held Saturday, November 8th from 4 to 8pm at his home, 6188 N. Bandon Place, Garden City, Idaho.
Condolences can be made to the family online at www.colonial-funeralhome.com.
