David Housley Obituary

David Conn Housley was born March 27, 1954 in Pocatello, Idaho to Conn Leon Housley and Vera Jean Petty. He was their first of two children, both sons. David passed away, surrounded by family, on July 31, 2025 in Ogden, Utah.

David, often called Dave by his friends, graduated from Pocatello High School where he participated on the Debate Team and was recognized in speech competitions. As a youth, Dave played Little League and Pony League baseball and learned to play the guitar.

Briefly after high school, Dave attended Idaho State University and then moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend Tufts University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Tufts. He then moved to Seattle where he taught middle school and high school students for 45 years.

Dave loved gathering with family at Christmas time. Every December, he would drive from Seattle to Pocatello to spend the season with his parents, brother and brother's family.

Dave stayed connected to friends in Pocatello and developed close relationships with friends in Seattle. He furthered the guitar playing of his youth to an advanced level and began playing at clubs in Seattle, with his friends, and with family around the campfire. He was an avid reader and almost always had a book at hand. He loved the mountains and spent weekends and summers hiking, climbing peaks, and camping throughout the mountain west.

David is survived by his brother Ken Housley, nephews Jason and Kevin and niece Laura. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and nephew Brian.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 11 am at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd. Chubbuck, ID 83202. Graveside services will start at 1 pm at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.

What a guy! Dave was the leader of our junior high school rock ad roll band with his screaming guitar. I remember his kind mom serving strawberry shortcake before practicing in his basement. We even won a battle of the bands thanks to Dave! Big Red´s thoughts were always on a higher level than most, and will always be remembered for providing lots of entertainment, laughter and smiles.

Dave was indeed One of a kind. Always interesting to talk to. He must have been a very interesting high school teacher. Till we meet again Dave.

Dave was a brilliant man; quiet but also had the most delightful devious side. Gifted writer. I truly think he was the original International Man of Mystery.
