Maybe no one will ever read this, but I would like to pay my respect to someone that I considered a friend and awesome man. I got the privilege to know Jack through horse racing as a jockey. One horse in particular that Jack and I have fond memories of was Paint Me Cash. When he was a 2 year old we qualified him for a Futurity in Pocatello. On the day the finals were scheduled to run the track was in bad shape from prior day storms. I rode a very good older horse named Argulite earlier on the card who fell while pulling up on the backside. I separated my shoulder and it hurt like hell. However, I refused medical help because I was damn determined to ride Paint Me Cash in the Futurity Finals later that day. A few races later Jack and Randy Bowman (the trainer) came in the jock room to check on my condition. I told them I was fine and I was going to ride Cash. They informed me that they were not going to run him with those track conditions. Truth be told I was relieved because my shoulder was killing me. I left immediately to go to the hospital. I had a severe separation, but I would have stayed and rode him and won had they decided to stay in the race.
Paint Me Cash took me to the winners circle many times including a track record at Blackfoot under Jim Hansons training. That track record is one of only a few that I was involved in that still stand.
My last race I ever rode as a jockey was on Paint Me Cash. Again, he came through for me and won an 870 yard race in Pocatello.
Through all of those wins I will never forget how appreciative and excited Jack was. I always loved how animated he would get and how thankful he was for me riding his horse.
Mostly I will remember Jack for his big smile and big friendly personality.
Jack, you will be missed! Thank you so much for allowing me to be a small part of your life.

Jack was a dear friend and one of a kind! He was sharp as a tack, had a wicked sense of humor and I was always amazed at the jokes he remembered! Have many great memories of being around Jack and Mary at the races and socializing thru the years...will miss you Jack!
