GRACE - Mearl P. Ashbaker, surrounded by her family, joined her Heavenly Father and many loved ones on March 16, 2007.
She was born to Russell and Lettie Thirkill Panting on December 1, 1922, in Soda Springs, Idaho. Mearl was the sixth of eight children. She spent her early years in the Soda Springs area and graduated from Soda Springs High School.
She met her sweetheart, Douglas Ashbaker, and they were married on January 24, 1944, in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Together Mearl and Doug were blessed with three children, Marilyn, Steve and Melanie.
Mearl loved her home and enjoyed making it a beautiful place for family and friends to enjoy. She was a wonderful cook and loved to collect recipes. She enjoyed her beautiful yard and the outdoors. She also enjoyed her time spent in St. George, Utah.
She worked in the Primary and was a dedicated visiting teacher. Mearl loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her three children, Marilyn Shelman, Preston, ID; Steve and Katie Ashbaker, Layton, Utah; and Melanie and Duane Brant, Hartland, Mich. She is also survived by six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, one brother, Blaine Panting, and a sister, Virginia Jones, along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center. Family will meet friends Tuesday morning from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to services. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of the Webb Funeral Home.
