Veon Wallentine Nate, 77, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 while vacationing in San Diego, California.
Veon was born in Lanark, Idaho on August 2, 1935, to Loraine Charles and Hazel Hymas Wallentine. She married Edward B. Sommers in 1953 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho, LDS Temple. They were later divorced. She married her eternal companion, Lynn Henry Nate, on August 1, 1963, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They spent the first few years of their marriage in Montpelier, Idaho and then moved to Blackfoot in 1968.
She grew up on the family farm in Lanark and later in Paris, Idaho, milking cows, feeding calves, pigs, and chickens and gathering eggs. Veon and Lynn served an LDS mission together to the Arizona Tucson Mission from 1994-1995. She also served in the Idaho Pocatello Mission from 2007 -2009. She was known for her organizational skills, hard work, and dedication in everything she did. She was happiest when serving and helping others, especially her family. She was a talented pianist, organist, and singer and gave freely of her time in sharing those gifts.
She lived an active lifestyle which included sports, camping, gardening and accompanying her husband while snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting. Veon loved music and dancing and was a skilled seamstress. She was active in her community as an Election Volunteer, a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, the Red Hat Society, Rotaryannes, and various other organizations.
She is survived by her children Lonney (Tammy) of Idaho Falls; Cindy (Steve) Felt of Riverton, Utah; Denise (Michael) Wheeler of Afton, Wyoming; Brad (Jana) of Spanish Fork, Utah; Dinette (Howard) Pugmire of Blackfoot; Susan (Mark) Loveland of Blackfoot; Nancy (Corey) Ransom of Logan, Utah; Randy (Amy) of Orem, Utah; Tom (Lori) of Meridian, Idaho; 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers; Loraine Junior, Rao, and Sterling, and four sisters; RaNae Earley, Margean Nate, Darlene Smart, and Bonnie Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn H. Nate on April 10, 2006; her parents and two brothers, Darwin and Venoy.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Blackfoot LDS 2nd Ward building, 660 Teton Drive. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot, and from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. Wednesday before services at the church. Dear Dinette, Howard & Kids-
We know how much you loved your Mother/ Grandmother and of your deep concerns for her on a daily basis. She IS an amazing woman and she will carry her legacy with her as she continues to progress in this next stage of life. We also know how hard it is to lose a parent. Separation from those whom we love is not easy. Whether death was expected or unexpected, the loss is profound for those whom we hold 'near & dear'...until we meet them again.
We send you our deepest wishes that you may be sweetly comforted by fond memories in this time of separation.
Our love to all of you.

Dear Nate Family,
So sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. She was just a neat lady and the article in the paper was just a wonderful tribute to her. It was my pleasure seeing you all again, it brought back such wonderful memories of growing up on South Cleveland. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Take care.
Love, Mike & LeighAnn (Hawkes) Davis

Veon was a special cousin. I have fond memories of her while we were growing up and then we had our own families and seldom met again. Hope to meet some of her children before we die.
