Alma Durrett Obituary
Following a courageous battle with cancer, Alma "Lorain" Durrett, 71, of Payette, entered into eternal peace surrounded by her loving family, Friday, April 7, 2006. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the Bible Baptist Church, Payette with Pastor Rob Zacklan officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. A visitation for family and friends will be from 3-7 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2006 at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Lorain was born in St. Joseph, Mo., to Peter John and Alma Sophie (Engblade) Schappert. She grew up and attended schools in Missouri, Michigan and Illinois before moving with her family to Payette, Idaho where she graduated from high school in 1954. She met Billy Leo Durrett in Payette and they were married in Lovington, N.M. on Feb. 8, 1955. She lived in New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho where she worked diligently in and outside the home to help provide for her family. She retired from Ore-Ida in 2000. She enjoyed traveling, visiting with her children and grandchildren, puttering in her yard, and tending her flowers. Lorain devoted herself to her Lord, her family, her church and her friends. She taught countless Sunday school and Vacation Bible School classes, and found a particular joy in ministering to the children on the reservation in Yakima, Wash., where she and Bill served together. Lorain was a prayer warrior and a lifelong student of the Word of God. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Payette. Lorain will be greatly missed by her six children, Ricky (Shirley) Durrett of Jacksonville, N.C., Bob (Carol) Durrett of Eugene, Ore., David (Margie) Durrett of Payette, Idaho, Douglas (Heidi) Durrett of Lebanon, Ore., Lynda (Kevin) Hedges of Moscow, Idaho and Laura (Robert) Smith of Union Springs, Ala.; six brothers, John Schappert, Bob Schappert, Ray Schappert, Bill Schappert, Ron Schappert and Leonard Schappert; two sisters, Lili Owens and Carol Goff; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Lorain was preceded in death by an infant brother, her parents and her husband of 50 years. Memorials may be made to Heart-N-Home Hospice, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O.
