Andrew Gustavel Obituary

Andrew Terry Gustavel
August 1, 1978 - July 26, 2022
Boise, Idaho - Our precious Andrew Terry Gustavel, 43, passed from this earthly life to his heavenly home at St. Al's hospital in Boise after a long illness. He was determined and courageous in his struggle to overcome his serious health issues. Our hearts are broken at his loss.
Andrew was kind, nonjudgmental, and had a great sense of humor. He was a caretaker who was always there for family and friends. He was born August 1, 1978, to Terry Gustavel and Patricia Swan Gustavel, joining his three older brothers, Matthew, Michael and Mark. He attended Boise schools, graduating from Borah High School in 1997. He then attended U of I, NIJC and BSU majoring in criminal justice. He worked a variety of jobs, including bank teller, parking manager at the Marriott Waterfront in Seattle, and his favorite job working as a finish carpenter in Boise, Sun Valley and McCall.
As a child, Andrew played sports and became interested in art especially drawing cityscapes. He loved being in McCall with family at the cabin. He admired his older brothers and logged numerous hours watching their events. Andrew had a great love for and loyalty to his friends. He always enjoyed being the comedian to friends and family. He liked to have a good time and hear others laugh.
Andrew battled an addiction to alcohol. He went to several rehabs and would achieve periods of sobriety even as long as 5 years. Sadly then in the end it was this addiction that took his life. Through his experiences in rehab he had many close friends throughout the US.
Andrew had a strong faith in God and in his last days he held his blessed wood Rosary with a cross he had made in a Catholic Rehab in Alabama. He said since he made about 2000 wooden crosses for Rosaries there, he could hopefully get some points toward heaven.
We will forever miss our sweet loving Andrew. Thank God his physical suffering is now ended and he is resting in God's arms.
Andy is survived by his parents, Terry and Pat Gustavel, his brother Matthew (Molly) Gustavel, Michael (Amy) Gustavel and Mark Gustavel; his Aunt Julie Johns, Uncle Jack (Judy) Gustavel, Aunt Carolyn Collins, and many cousins.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Jess and Ardis Swan and Gus and Alice Gustavel. I lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Corpus Christi House, The Idaho Food Bank or your favorite charity.
Services for Andrew will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 5th at Sacred Heart Church at 811 S. Latah, Boise. Celebration of Life will continue after Mass at Hillcrest Country Club. A private family interment will be on Saturday, August 6, at 11:00 AM at Cloverdale Cemetery.

RIP sweet Andy. Will miss you and keep all the great memories witnessing you and our kids growing up since high school. One of the last times I saw you, I was sitting in my car in the parking lot at Hillcrest shopping center when you suddenly hopped into the front seat to say hello.! We feel blessed to have known you

I am sorry for the loss of your son. Thank you for sharing his story. May God bring you strength and peace in the months ahead.

My folks I believe knew Gus and Alice. My dad worked for United Airlines and I'm thinking Gus, as dad called him also did.

Andy has been my best friend since the 1st grade. During Elementary School we loved trading baseball cards and playing G.I. Joes. During Jr. High and High School we loved golfing at Hillcrest. We would go out to eat every year on his birthday... yesterday was the first time I wasn't able to be with my friend on his birthday. It was very hard for me, I thought about him all day. Here is a picture of us on his birthday 6 years ago. I miss him so much.
