Carl Madsen Obituary

Carl Madsen

January 24, 1960 - March 13, 2025

Boise, Idaho - Carl D. Madsen, 65, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, in Boise. He was born on January 24, 1960, in Nampa, Idaho, to Ina Jean (Jackson) and Lenard J. Madsen.

Carl grew up on a dairy farm as the youngest of four brothers and a sister. From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic and a passion for craftsmanship - driving a tractor by age six and honing skills in woodworking, automobiles, and construction. He graduated from Boise State University and went on to serve the City of Boise's Building Division for 17 years, first as a plans examiner, and later as the assistant building official. Carl was known for his practical problem solving, mentoring spirit, and unwavering dedication to excellence. His colleagues remember him as a guiding force whose expertise helped shape Boise's development and whose generosity left a lasting legacy.

An artist at heart, Carl found joy in creating beauty through woodwork, photography, and epoxy art. He crafted cabinets, turned-wood bowls, and home renovations with care and precision. A lover of the outdoors, he embraced every opportunity to hike, fish, hunt, snowshoe, and camp - always eager to explore the unknown.

Carl is survived by his fiancee, Jennifer (Kincade) Bruner, his daughter, Devon Madsen Chavez, his son, Logan Madsen, and his brothers Jay, Charlie, and Andy. Carl is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Terry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Commons at: https://corpuscommons.org/.

A celebration of life will be held on 6/26/25 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at Leku Ona, located at 117 S 6th St, Boise, ID 83702.

Carl's memory will live on through the lives he touched - with kindness, humor, and enduring commitment to building a better world.

Carl was a genuine gem. I had the pleasure and honor working with him at the City of Boise and learned a great insight to the Planning and Development Services department, it´s workings, and applications. Very sad to find he´s gone too soon. Thoughts, prayers, and condolences to his family and the City of Boise.

Carl hired me at the City of Boise in 2017 and we became friends; more than just a Supervisor and Employee relationship. We were close to the same age, so we could relate to each other on a more personal, professional level. I was constantly going home and telling my wife what Carl did that day that was funny. I think about Carl quite often and miss his sense of humor. He made the work environment an enjoyable place.
