Charles Yochum Obituary

Charles S. Yochum
January 6, 1941 - January 14, 2022
Boise, Idaho - Charles (Chuck) Sebastian Yochum, 81, passed away at his home on January 14, 2022, following a courageous battle with cancer. Chuck was born on January 6, 1941, on a farm in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Joseph and Rita Yochum. After attending St. Patrick's grade school and graduating from Walsh High School, he attended St. Ambrose, an all-men's college in Davenport, Iowa, working nights at the Oscar Mayer Meat Packing Company to put himself through school. While at St. Ambrose, he met his wife to be, Carolyn Northway, at the all-women's school Marycrest College. On May 29, 1965, they started a 56-year journey together, living in nine different homes in five different states and increasing their family by four in eight years. In 1976, Chuck had the opportunity to meet the founder of Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, Dave Thomas. On a handshake, he acquired the franchise rights in Eugene, Oregon. Overnight, he moved his growing family to sights unseen and built, owned, and operated five Wendy's restaurants in Eugene, Oregon. By 1984, he decided it was time to get out of the rain and, after visiting friends in Boise, decided the Treasure Valley would be a good place to raise his growing family, which had increased by two more little bundles of joy! Upon moving to Boise, he embarked on a number of adventures, which included a horse ranch, a graphic arts company, Dairy Queens, real estate, Iams distribution company, Hillside Nursery, and car washes.
Chuck will be remembered as a husband and father who took his commitment seriously - loving, supporting, and educating his family second to none. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; six children, Joseph, George Clifford, John, Jeanine, Janelle, and Justin; and 13 grandchildren.
Here's to the last "auspicious" occasion to the best husband and father anyone could ask for!
We Love You, Dad!
A vigil will be held Thursday, February 3, 7:00pm, at St. John's Cathedral, 707 N. 8th St., in Boise, with funeral services held the next morning, Friday, February 4, at 10:00am, also at St. John's Cathedral. Interment will be at Dry Creek Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Hillcrest Country Club, 4610 Hillcrest Dr., in Boise.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Reverend Bill Roscoe at the Boise Rescue Mission. Condolences can be given at relyeafuneralchapel.com.

Dear Carolyn & Family,
We were so saddened to learn of Chuck's passing though we know of the suffering he endured for the last several months of his life. We can only imagine how painful it has been for all of you. He was such a cordial, caring man and we always enjoyed his company. He will be sorely missed. We only hope that knowing how much others care will give you comfort. I truly loved Chuck. ron...
