Christina Cline Obituary

Christina Bernice Cline

November 4, 1949 - November 1, 2023

Boise, Idaho - Christina Bernice Cline died on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the age of 73. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Avenue, Boise.

Christina was born in Boise, ID on November 4, 1949 to Glen E. and Kathryn Crain Cline. She grew up and was educated in Boise, graduating from Borah High School in 1968. In the summer of 1969, Christina went on the trip of a lifetime, traveling Africa and Europe. Christina earned a B.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Idaho in 1972 after starting her college art experience for two years at the University of Montana. In 1978 she earned her Master's degree from Boise State University.

Christina was a beloved art teacher. She taught art, photography, and yearbook at both South Junior High in Boise and Orting High School in Puyallup, WA. Christina's nearly 40-year career in education left an indelible mark on the lives of those she taught and mentored. Christina shared her profound love for all forms of art, nurturing the artistic talents of thousands of students. Her vibrant and infectious enthusiasm for the arts sparked creativity and joy in her classroom. Her teaching extended far beyond techniques and mediums; she instilled in her students a deep appreciation for self-expression, individuality, and the beauty of the creative process.

Described as creative, joyful, independent, loving, and compassionate, Christina's impact reached far beyond the confines of the classroom. Her students often spoke of her as more than a teacher; she was a mentor and a friend, always ready to listen, encourage, and guide them on their journeys. Many former students stayed in touch with Christina and credited her with significantly contributing to the direction of their lives.

Even after her retirement, Christina continued to share life lessons and knowledge with the young people in her life. She was an adored auntie and a mentor to the many high school students she hired over the years to assist with household upkeep. Her dedication to teaching was a testament to her lifelong commitment to being a positive influence in the lives of others.

Besides her passion for teaching, Christina was extremely dedicated to her family. She was proud of her heritage and spent countless hours researching and documenting her family lineage. She often spoke of the long line of strong, independent women from whom she came. Christina was also proud of her father who was an influential Idaho architect. She loved to share stories of ancestors with her nieces and nephews. Enjoying the company of family and friends was one of Christina's favorite pastimes.

Christina was an animal lover and a dedicated pet parent. In her younger years, she loved riding and tending to horses. She adored every one of the nine dogs she adopted over the course of her adult life. Her dogs were her light, her joy, and her true companions. Christina enjoyed spending time in the mountains, with her dogs, family, friends, and in solitude.

Christina's positive spirit extended to every facet of her life. She radiated love and compassion to everyone she met. Her kindness was boundless, her generosity unmatched, and her laughter infectious. Her friends and family remember her as a source of strength and support, a beacon of positivity who brightened even the darkest of days.

Christina leaves behind a community of former students, colleagues, friends, and family who will cherish her memory and the invaluable wisdom she imparted. Christina's family requests that any memorial donations be made to The Boise Art Museum, the Boise School District Foundation, the Idaho Humane Society, or another charity benefiting children, animals, or the arts. Christina will be dearly missed, but her loved ones take solace in knowing her life was a masterpiece, beautifully woven into the hearts and minds of those she touched.

Chris was our neighbor on Randolph Dr. While she was older than I, she was a person whom I liked and respected. I knew her parents as well, and indeed she came from a line of strong women. Her mother, KC Cline, was wonderfully outspoken and flamboyant (or so it seemed to me as a 10 year old), and her father, Glen, was very kind. Chris reached out to me about 10 years ago, just to say hello, to reconnect, and to reminisce about the good old days on Randolph Dr. She was perceptive and insightful. I am very sad to hear of her passing. We will remember Chris.

Christy grew up on my childhood Boise street so I remember her fondly. Although we lost track when we went to different high schools, I am sorry she's gone.

I was sad to learn this woman of influence has gone on ahead before I could thank her. I am one of the many students she influenced with her positive attitude, patience, example.
I will thank her here for the above and for teaching me to play the guitar. She had a voice of an angel. May she sing with them now.
Good bye my friend...

Christie was a true diamond - not "in the rough", but totally polished and shining. I was in art classes with her at Borah, and her friendship continued to enrich me for the next (almost) 60 years. When I was in the dumps at one time in my life, she used to make me a cup of coffee and build up my confidence by using her honest, truthful, and uplifting straight-forward talks. The obituary is very true to the type of person she was. I will miss her. My condolences to her family and all her other friends.

Here was My last message to you, Ms Cline -was Oct 19th of last year and I appreciated your reply. You will be remembered, always loved, and missed by many. Thank you for sharing your life and skills with me an so many others. It read..."I meant to send you a message the other day when I saw your hand wave here. I was happy to see it and wanted to let you know that you were a great teacher to me. You were in my top five all-time teachers growing up in Orting. Every time I hear a song from Steve Miller band, I think of you and all those times you would play that album over and over in our class. Good memories! I hope you´re doing well. I got to see Mr. Clyde the other night when I saw his Facebook message saying he was in the hospital again. It was late in the evening, but I wanted to see him so I spent a couple hours at his bedside talking basketball and just good memories. I´m going to be helping my brother coach the Orting high school basketball team this year. It´s been a very very long time since they´ve had a good program and once my brother told me he got the head coach position, I figured it would be good to get in touch with some of the old alumni from the 80s and around my time. To get a little support. These kids have changed a bunch since we were in school and it would be nice to teach them what good character and hard work is all about. You were one of those who inspirations for me, so it´s time to pay it forward. Have a great day today!"
Your reply..."Delightful surprise to hear from you Brian. You not only made my day, but you stirred up some treasured memories. I loved working with kids and families who believed they could do anything.
I have enjoyed using technology to stay in touch with Orting and observe the journeys.
You and Leah have been the example of lives well lived. Warms my heart to have shared my life with you. Thank you for sharing yourselves with me.
Touched my heart to know you stayed close to Coach Clyde. Give Leah a hug for me.
Through the years I have enjoyed visits from former Cardinals who stayed with me on their way though Boise.
You are welcome anytime.
Ms Cline. "
