Cynthia Hicks Obituary

Cynthia Dawn Hicks
January 4, 1961 ~ May 15, 2016
Sweet Cindy left us Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the age of 55. She will be forever remembered for her unconditional kindness, her love for others, and her wonderful sense of humor. She had a magnetic, warm, and inspiring spirit and always had a knack for finding and helping those in need.
Cindy was born in Carmel, California, to Robert and (late) Dawn Westdyke. She graduated high school in Boulder, Colorado and attended classes at Brigham Young University in Utah before marrying Eric at the age of 20. She spent her young adult life being a loving and devoted mother and volunteering in many capacities, including spending time working with young women and also as a social worker helping other mothers place their babies for adoption. She lived in many places as she supported Eric's career moves, including Provo, Bloomington, Indiana, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Dayton, Grand Rapids, Dallas, Louisville, Philadelphia, and finally Eagle, Idaho. While these were difficult moves early on with small children, Cindy managed the transitions well and developed beautiful friendships everywhere she landed. In her more recent years, she loved being Oma to her several grandchildren, spending time with her husband, and traveling to the ocean whenever she was able.
At the age of 41, Cindy was involved in a car accident that took her right arm. While she never lost her optimism or sense of humor as she struggled to relearn daily functions, she battled the pain for the duration of her life. Her courage in facing this daily battle, was an inspiration to all who came to know her.
Cindy was preceded in death by her mother, Dawn Westdyke.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 35 years, Eric Hicks, along with her father, Robert Westdyke (Kathy); her children, Nathan Hicks (Suzy), Kyle Hicks (Veronica), Whitney Beckley (Chea); her grandchildren, Parker, Grant, Jude, Cora, Gemma, and June; and her siblings, Heidi Porter (Emery) and Chris Westdyke.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the LDS chapel located at 700 W. State St., Eagle. A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will immediately follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.

I regret not seeing this sooner and expressing love and appreciation to Eric and the family. Cindy and all the Westdyke family were an important part of my adolescent years, a great stabilizing force. Daily rides to and from early morning seminary to school were often punctuated by being included in their family prayer, kneeling around the "sprocket" table. No doubt the significance of including me in that family ritual seemed minor at the time but many many times those memories come back as decades later I kneel with my own wife and children and my children kneel with their children. Wishing God's choicest blessings on Cindy seems kind of silly, I know without doubt He has and will continue to bless her and her family. I do pray for peace comfort for all the family and know her example echoes down through the generations. Love to you all.

Cindy is beautiful inside and out. She will always hold a special place in my heart. She was a dear friend. She made me laugh, feel understood, see life at another angle, cheer up, feel grateful, feel stronger and feel loved. There isn't anything more I could need from a dear friend. I will always be grateful for her friendship and love. The world is a better place because Cindy lived here. She will always be remembered by anyone that knew her with fondness and love.

I loved her very much, just as everyone who knew her loved her. She lived her faith every day of her life and was an example to everyone who came into contact with her. She could dry my tears and make me laugh, all because she loved me enough to care more about me than she cared about herself. What a fine lady! I will always picture her with her radiant smile. I have everyone who feels this loss in my prayers.
