David Hartway Obituary

David John Hartway, 69 of Boise, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006 at a local hospital. David was born Nov. 23, 1936 at Romeo, Mich., a son of Vern and Olga Hartway. He was reared and educated there and graduated from Almont High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960. Returning home he married Addie Holtzen on Aug. 9, 1964. They made their home in Michigan until 1977 when they moved to Idaho. Together they raised four children, Sheri, David M., Jon and Kristi. David served his fellow man as a policeman from 1968 until 1984 when he retired. He was Chief of Police in Buhl and later Glenns Ferry. He enjoyed coaching his kids sports, was a mentor to them and many other young people. He loved working with kids and said that is why he became a cop - to lead some away from lives of trouble. His wife Addie and his folks passed earlier. His is survived by his three brothers, Lee, Frank, and Chuck; his four children, Sheri Close (Rollie), David Michael Hartway (Sandye), Jon Hartway (Jennifer), and Kristi Hartway (Garner Williams), seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A viewing and gathering will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 at Bowman Funeral Parlor, Glenwood St., Garden City prior to burial with military honors at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at 3 p.m., Tuesday.
