Dorothy Gestrin Obituary

Dorothy Mae Gestrin
Dorothy Mae Gestrin, 88, went to be with her Heavenly Father January 14, 2017. Born in Twin Falls, ID to Wayne and Elsie (Murray) Whitney, she moved home just west of Lake Fork one month later, where her father raised seed potatoes. She lived there thru her sophomore year and moved to Meadows for her junior and senior year. She graduated in May of 1945 and went to Kansas in June to marry Francis Gestrin. When World War II was over, he was discharged from the Army and they moved back to Long Valley. Together they started the Long Valley Farm Service and later built and ran the Long Valley Motel. Francis died suddenly after 35 years of marriage.
She served on the Donnelly City Council and then served as Mayor. She helped in building the park (twice) and getting the tennis courts. She was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Donnelly Bible Church within a couple of years of its inception until now. She was on the North Lake Recreational Sewer and Water District Board from its inception in 1994 until now. She and Francis were instrumental in starting the Shiloh Bible Camp. They also gave road easements so the SISCRA Park could be built.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Linda Beth (George) Duncan of Lake Fork and their children Adam Duncan of Boise, Lee (Brooke) Duncan of Lake Fork, John Duncan of Lake Fork and Ellen (Bob) Tamminga of Liberty, Missouri; Elsie Elena (Rick) Krause of Donnelly and their children Janet (Eric) Robinson of Emerald Isle, North Carolina and Alan (Ali) Krause of Seattle, Washington; Terry Francis (Sheri) Gestrin of Donnelly and their children Robin (Joe) Kimball of Mayhill, New Mexico and Deidre Gestrin of Baker City, Oregon; Bruce Wayne (Barb) Gestrin of Eagle and their children Michele (Scott) Krahn of Star and Tyler Gestrin of Boise; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother George Whitney of Yuma, Arizona and numerous nephews and a niece. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Francis Gestrin, Guy Ireland Jr., Don Rising and Gerald Nadeau.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Donnelly Bible Church with Pastor Tom Penry presiding. Interment will follow in Holmes Cemetery. Dorothy's favorite charities include Samaritans Purse and the Shriners because of the medical services provided to the family.

Dorothy was one of my most favorite people in the world! I adopted Dorothy as a substitute grandma after my Grandma Dorothy passed. She was loved deeply and will leave an empty spot in all of our hearts.
I send you loves, hugs and prayers during this sad time.

She was one of my favorite people to share a hug with. Seeing her face whenever I returned to Donnelly made me know how much I loved "home".

We are so sorry to hear this news and know how much you will all miss her. She was quite a lady, and we've been blessed by knowing her. But we know where she is and look forward to seeing her again. May God be especially close and comfort you all at this time. In His Love, Mary and Bob.
