George Strasser Obituary

George Arthur Strasser, age 85, of Meridian, passed away in Boise, Idaho on Jan. 31, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at the Sunnybrook LDS. Chapel, 2515 W. Ustick Road, Meridian. A viewing will be held at the church from 10 until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will be at Meridian Cemetery. Services are under direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel. George was the second child of Luella Hughes and George Strasser, born in Mesquite, Nev., Jan. 11, 1921. He spent his youth in Mesquite surrounded by his grandparents, aunts and uncles. He graduated from Virgin Valley High School. Shortly after graduation he was drafted into the Army and served in World War II in the 84th Infantry Division in the European theatre. He married Wilma Earl on May 11, 1943 in the St. George LDS. Temple. He returned from the service in 1946 and made his home in Meridian where he and Wilma raised eight children. He worked throughout the Treasure Valley in construction as a finish carpenter. He was a faithful member of the LDS. Church and served in various callings, including 11 years in the Boise Temple. His greatest source of pride and joy was his posterity. He is most often remembered by holding a grandchild on his lap and singing songs from his childhood. George is survived by his beloved companion, Wilma; and their children and spouses, Linda and Jim Strikwerda, Virginia and Bernie Jensen, Charlie and Rana Strasser, Leon and Janie Strasser, Mike and Sharlene Strasser, Calista and Gary Laney, and Earl and Lorna Strasser. He had 45 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. He has three surviving brothers, Dilworth Strasser, Francis Lewis Pratt, and Ether Pratt; and two sisters, LaRae Galvin and Loretta Pymm. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Irene; his grandson, Bradley Strikwerda; and a great-granddaughter, Kate Jensen.

I lived next door to the Strasser family for 23 years. I have very fond memories of hunting, fishing, camping and going to church with Art. He was a very kind and loving person and was always happy with a smile on his face. He was like a second dad to me as I was growing up. I will miss him.

We send our sincere sympathy to the family. I have fond memories of Brother Strasser. I have known brother Strasser and family for more than 40 years since we lived next door. I have many good memories as a child of allways playing at the Strassers home and brother Strasser was allways very kind. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family.

I am grandchild #9. My favorite memories of Grandpa were of him singing. He almost never sang the same song twice and every song was completely entertaining. I will miss the funeral due to living so far away and the cost of getting back to Idaho, but my families thoughts and prayers will be there. We love you Grandps Strasser!!

We send our sincere sympathy to the family. We have fond memories of Brothr Strasser and the old Meridian 2nd Ward. Brent also worked with him at Boise Cascade on West Franklin Road many years. We have a great appreciation for the example your family has set for us.
