Glenn Orton Obituary

Glenn Orton 1913-2009 Graveside services for Glenn Orton, 96, who died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at his home in Lamesa, Texas, will be held on Tuesday October 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Lamesa Memorial Park with Chaplain Walter McCall and Rev. Gerald Parsons officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. He was born on March 19, 1913 in Clear Lake, Wisconsin to Mary and Otis Orton. In 1917 he moved with his family to Mountain Home, Idaho. He graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1932 and attended the University of Idaho for two years. On February 2, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. where he served in the South Pacific, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Grand Canal, Vella Vella, Bouganville, Hawaii, Iwo Jima, Japan, and Guam. He was a machine gunner, an 81 Mortar Crewman as a forward observer and he served as a Section Sergeant in the Korean War. He also served as a Marine Paratrooper from July of 1942-1944. Glenn was discharged on November 30, 1950. He married Aileen Fancher on December 3, 1945 in Yuma, Arizonia. He enlisted in the Marine Corp. Reserve in May of 1947 and was called to duty in September of 1950 during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in May 1952. He worked for Consolidated Freightways in Boise, Idaho. He was a business agent for Teamster Local 483 in Boise. He retired on October 26, 1973 and moved to Lake Havasu, Arizonia then moved to Lamesa, Texas in 1998. He is survived by nieces, Jenny Witte of Lamesa, Judy Tegnell of Boise, Shirley Houston of Mesa, Arizonia, and Sue Wright of Lubbock; nephews, Clarence Orton of Boise, Doyle Fancher of Lamesa, Lowell Fancher of Onalaska, Texas, and Lee Fancher of Ohio; and sister-in-law, Maxine Fancher, of Lamesa. He is preceded in death by his wife, Aileen; his parents; brothers, Clarence Orton Sr., and Lester Orton; sister, Marie Swimm; nieces, Nova Ray, Veta Blackburn, and Sharon Sligar. The family suggests memorials to the Dawson Medical Foundation for landscaping for Medical Arts Hospital.
