Greg Gummere Obituary

Greg Gummere
February 9, 1954 - August 11, 2018
The fearless soul of Greg Gummere, Boise, ID, formerly of Bloomington, IL, left this earth on August 11, 2018 while enjoying an annual motorcycle ride with close friends. The motto Greg lived by is perfectly captured by a plaque that hangs on his home office wall..."Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive package and well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, chocolate in one hand, Beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming WOO HOO, what a ride!"
People who knew and loved Greg described him as follows: brother, mentor, fair, loyal, intelligent, caring, driven, loving, grumpy, happy, hard headed, die hard Chicago Bear fan with a colorful vocabulary. Always spoke his mind, and as a friend, family member, and colleague he challenged you, supported you, argued with you, protected you, and was ALWAYS at your side when you needed him most. He will be missed.
Greg was preceded in death by two brothers, Tim and Randy, and his father Jerry. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Doner, his wife, Edie, his daughter Lindsey, his son Kip, his brother Jered, his nephew Riley, his oldest grand daughter Taylor, along with several other grand children and a great grandson.
A celebration of life gathering will be held in the near future. Memorials in his name can be made to any good cause.

I thank you Greg for the encouragement you gave to me in the years growing up in this business. First as fellow distributors and then as a mentor when you went to Manitowoc. You helped me to see challenging situations through and give the right advice; even if the outcome wasn't what we expected. Confident it was the thing to do. Your passing leaves a void in the entire Manitowoc family - distribution to factory but we were blessed we had you on the journey. My prayers are with Edie and his Son and Daughter. Gods speed friend; until we meet again

Greg was one of the greatest salesmen I knew and I am very proud to say that he was my friend and mentor. He was someone you could talk to straight and get a straight answer, whether it was good or bad. He earned my respect many years ago when I was on the assembly line at Servend. He would always tour his customers through the plant and introduce me to them. I was just a line worker and he still took time to introduce me and help me throughout my career. His advice and sense of humor will always remain in our mind and heart! Jodi and I will miss him but always remember him as one of the greatest!

God must have needed advice or a good laugh! Who better to get it from than Gummy!

Gregg cared for his family as well as his customers. His obituary is so accurate. I've known Greg over 30 years and if you really needed something, he would be there for you. May he rest in peace. You will be missed!

Greg hired me for my still current job 30 years ago now. A good friend. The kind of guy who if even years passed between meetings it felt just like you saw him last week.

Quite shocking. Still sad over it.

Greg was obe of those father in laws who made you fill at home from the first time i met him and who excepted my kids and one of his. For those endless talks about sports with Q too taking Riley Robert out to learn how to play the game of golf to just sitting down to talk to my daughter Audrey about how school and work was going. Greg thanks for all the memories you gave us and the good times we had. Greg thanks for make me a better man and husband to who i am today.
