Hal Davis Obituary

Hal K. Davis
January 15, 1927 - March 8, 2023
Boise, Idaho - Hal K. Davis passed away on March 8, 2023, at the age of 96 with his loving family by his side. Hal was born on January 15, 1927, to Guy L. and Margaret Davis in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hal graduated from Ogden High School where he met his future wife Betty Head.
After graduation, Hal enlisted with the U.S. Merchant Marines. During his time with the Merchant Marines, Hal bravely served in World War II and was on the ship of the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After his service was over, he returned to Utah and married the love of his life Betty on May 15, 1946. Hal and Betty celebrated over 70 years of marriage. They were blessed with 3 wonderful children: Kathy, Gary, and Brian.
From a young age, Hal began his work in the jewelry industry in Utah. In 1950, Hal and family moved to Boise to continue his work in the jewelry business. In 1966, Hal and Betty opened Hal Davis Jewelers. Hal founded the business on the principle of offering the finest, most unique designer pieces and treating every customer like family. Hal has lived by this principle and has instilled this in each of his employees for over 57 years.
Hal was an active member in the community and involved in many organizations. He was the President of the Ditch Safety Committee, Exalted Ruler and Board of Trustee of the Elks Lodge, and a member of the Boise Executive Association. He was also a huge supporter of Boise State Bronco Athletics. People who knew Hal referred to him as a true gentleman's gentleman.
Hal is survived by his daughter Kathy Seim, son Brian Davis, two granddaughters Andrea Brekke (Jim), Jennifer Graves (Scott), and four great-grandchildren, Addison and Ryan Brekke, and Owen and Olivia Graves.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents, his son Gary, his brother Jack, his loving wife Betty, and his son-in-law Hollis.
Hal's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 11:00am, at Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah St., Boise, with a viewing at 10:30am. Burial will follow the service at Morris Hill Cemetery. To offer condolences, go to Hal's tribute page at relyeafuneralchapel.com.

RIP Hal, you were always kind and understanding. In the short two years that I worked at your beautiful store I learned so much about not only the techniques of repairing fine jewelry, but more importantly the art of respect. I think about you often. You are missed by many.

My mother came over from Nampa to purchase gifts for me and my wife 60+ years ago, My wife and I have been customers since. My son started with a promise ring as a customer and also continues as such. Hal was a person of trust and his caring for our needs always reflected his ethics and consideration. Trust, accommodation, and friendship are what we felt for Hal Davis, may he rest in peace.

Just as it says in the obituary, Hal treated every customer like family. I was at the store just a couple of weeks or so ago, and his staff treated me the same way. They were friendly, kind, patient, and gave me great service and advice ... just as he would have wanted. Hal and Betty, we´re so lucky to have gotten the chance to know you.

I wandered into Hal Davis Jewelers sometime back in 1987 with a broken Rolex watch in my pocket. I was just a 21 year old 'punk' trying to finish up my studies at Boise State. Hal greeted me at the entrance with a smile and welcoming presence. Little did I know that that fateful day would lead me down the rabbit hole of Rolex watch collecting. I clearly remember spending my following semester's tuition at Hal's. The best place that I could have spent that tuition money to this day! Hal was an institution as far as I'm concerned when it came to Rolex watches - he probably sold more of them than any other Rolex dealer in the western United States! I am forever grateful to have met him and the wonderful, lasting memories of Hal and his store back in the day is indelibly etched in my brain. Rest easy, my friend.

Hal was a wonderful man. I worked for him from 1985 to 1992. He was always helpful and considerate to everyone. I really liked all the family. Kathy and Betty became my best friends. I kept in touch with Hal the last few years by sending cards and talking to him on the phone. I will really miss his voice. Everyone that knew Hal was aware of what a special person he was.

I had the fortunate pleasure of working closely with Hal for 25+ years. Hal fostered the golden rule philosophy in business and pleasure which was contagious. A handshake with Hal was all that was needed.
I'll always think of Hal when the daffodils bloom. Yearly, on a sunny spring day, he would bring those for each employee, one of his many thoughtful treats throughout the year.
Hal was an icon in the jewelry business, especially in the Treasure Valley, as he supported the creativity of many of his associates.
As one of the last of the Greatest Generation, Hal will be sorely missed, always loved, and remembered as a true gentleman!
Rest in peace, Hal, my friend.
