James Ennis Obituary

James Ennis
October 22, 1958 - April 5, 2021
Boise, Idaho - James Michael "Jim" Ennis was born October 22, 1958, in Boise, Idaho, to Richard W. and Mary Lou Ennis. Jim passed away at his home on April 5, 2021.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Boise. In his early years he enjoyed family fishing trips to Grandjean. He loved skiing at Bogus Basin and Sun Valley and he was quite the ski racer on the Mighty Mites Ski team. An accomplished golfer, he won the Hillcrest Country Club Championship for 11 and 12 year olds at age 11. He continued to enjoy golf his entire life. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family cabin in McCall. Jim also spent several years in his childhood serving as an Altar Boy at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Jim started playing the drums while attending Fairmont Junior High School. An accomplished musician, he played in several bands throughout high school. After graduating from Capital High School, he helped form "The Air" rock-and-roll band that was a staple in the Boise area. The Air ultimately toured up and down the West Coast, and throughout the South, as far away as Texas, playing in top tier rock-and-roll night clubs. The highlight of The Airs' touring was when they landed as an opening act band for headliners the Doobie Brothers, and another time with Black Oak Arkansas. Jim played music his entire life, and along with the drums, he also played acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, piano and electric keyboards. Music was Jim's true passion.
After The Air stopped touring Jim worked for and held many different positions in the family furniture business, Ennis Fine Furniture. While Jim never married or had children he would usually be seen with a pretty girlfriend on his arm and surrounded by some of his large circle of great friends.
Three years ago Jim's father suffered a debilitating stroke. Jim stepped up totally and completely to help, support, and care for his father until the time of his father's passing. Jim's immeasurable care for his father was a testament to the depth of his caring, compassionate, and patient soul. Jim's sense of humor was second to none, we all still laugh at some of the things he would come up with, even in the most trying times.
Jim is survived by his mother Mary Lou Ennis of Boise, brothers Rick (Lori) of Spokane, WA, Tom (Jill) of Meridian, sister Cathy Fackrell of Boise, brothers, David of Kennewick, WA and Jeff (Karol) of Meridian, and Uncle John Ennis (Mary) of Sandpoint, Aunt Mary Ann Gates of Atlanta, GA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank John Southworth of Southworth & Associates. Carl Onweiler of K & L Enterprises, the many good people of Alcoholics Anonymous and the huge number of close friends who supported Jim in his struggle with his disease. There will be a funeral mass for Jim at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to your favorite local charity.

Jimmy was my good friend for the last 40+ years. He always had something funny to say and he was always interested in what was happening in his friends' lives. I'll always remember the times we had touring the west with 'the Air'. He talked very fondly of those years the last few times that we spoke and I believe those were some of the best times of his life. I will miss seeing him and talking about those days...but most of all I will miss his sense of humor. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP James

Jim was a great friend. I'll miss our many breakfasts and lunches we had together. He spent time in St. George Utah, Puerta Aventuras, Mexico and Hollister California with me and was always positive and fun. I appreciated how close his family was to him. I'll miss you Jimbo.
