Janet Miller Obituary

(cont.) In 2002, she was elected to the Idaho House of Representatives to serve the people of District 17 and was re-elected in 2004. Among her accomplishments were bills to establish a statewide Safe Routes to School program and to transfer ownership of the old Borah Federal Building to the state. She supported legislation to promote business and protect children, veterans and seniors. Janet had an independent streak and would vote against the party line if she thought it would best serve her constituents. More on her record is at www.janetjmiller.com . Following a touching front-page story in the Idaho Statesman summarizing her life accomplishments, Janet on March 1 received a lifetime achievement award from the Idaho Women's Commission, including a letter of appreciation from Gov. Butch Otter. In the last month of her life, she also received awards of appreciation from the Idaho Federation of Republican Women and the Boise School District. Sen. Mike Crapo also read a tribute to Janet into the Congressional Record on March 2. In September 2005, Janet marked her 50th anniversary with Don and visited Ireland. Don passed away a month later, leaving us with memories of ATV rides, target practice, weekends at the cabin and a great father, husband and grandfather. Janet leaves three sons; Curtis of Boise, Brad of Eagle and Scott of Cypress, Calif., and a daughter, Barbara Miller Johncox of Boise. She also leaves 10 grandchildren: Elizabeth of Boise and Jacob and Katherine of Eagle; Anneka, Elise, Jarrett and Kaatja of Cypress, Calif.; and Riley, Vinny and Ruby of Boise. She leaves her mother, Donna Vincent Jenkins of Salt Lake City; a sister, Linda (Alfred) Winter of Eagle; two brothers, Kelly (Toni) Jenkins of Las Vegas and Ted Jenkins of Salt Lake City; nephews Rob Winter, Lenny Gall and Michael Gall; and niece Tonya Winter. She was preceded in death by her father Preston and sister Susan Gall, both of Salt Lake City. Janet faced cancer with dignity and strength, enjoying life and family until the last possible moment. She passed away in her home of 41 years, spending her final days with the love of her family and friends surrounding her. While Janet left too soon, she made the most of her time here, showing us all how to love and work together to make her corner of the world a better place. Her memorial will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6500 Overland Road (by the pedestrian overpass) in Boise at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27. Janet loved social functions and following the service, friends and family are invited to continue celebrating her life at the home of her daughter Barbara and son-in-law Martin Johncox at 6904 Randolph Drive, 407-0759. We hope all who loved Janet and are able to attend will come reminisce, laugh and remember Janet with us. Anyone who wants to continue Janet's caring legacy may donate to the J.J. Miller Scholarship Fund at Boise State University to help nursing education; call 426-3276 for more information.

Soft and gentle loving kindness I send to you all. I loved your parents, I was always welcomed with they're loving kindness.
They will be missed, for now. We will all be together again before long...

"On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine— the best of meats and the finest of wines."
Isaiah 25:6

"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:1-8

My sincere sympathies for the loss of your mom/grandmother. And my own sadness at the loss of a fine statesman. I worked as a lobbyist with Janet and always appreciated her positive outlook, her desire to learn about an issue, her sincerity and honesty - in short, I enjoyed working with her. I am sorry I was out of town for her wake and wanted you to know I was there in spirit. MaryTherese MacConnell, past advocate for the American Heart Association.

To the Miller family, Please accept our sincere condolances. Your Mom was such a lovely person. She was such an inspiration to me. She was always so positive and never let her RA get in her way. I hope that I face my RA with the same courage and determination as she did. I will miss visiting with her at the cabin. You are in our prayers.

Barbie, Brad and family
My sincere and deepest sympathies to all of you and your families. Your Mom was a pillar of strength, a stickler for detail as well as a great lady and politician! I'll never forget her stories from the dental office. She always had a beautiful smile that warmed the hardest heart. She will be greatly remembered for her service in the legislature and to all who had the honor of meeting her.
May your cherished and treasured memories of you Mom help you laugh a little, guide you through this path of tears, moving forward to an unconditional peace that passes all human understanding. Your Mom will be sadly missed by all. Thank you for sharing her with me.

I was first referred to Don Miller who prepared my income taxes at least two decades ago and was my loyal accountant every year until his passing. Janet was very brave and continued her call in government as well as assuming the duties and responsibilities of handling the family rental properties. I became very fond of them both and supported Janet by displaying her signs for election in my front yard. She was supportive of not only her Republican party, but also of Elliott Werk from the Democratic party, representing the 17th district as she believed that both parties would contribute to the good of the community. She always smiled and fondly embraced strangers who would immediately respond to her in kind.

She has joined her husband, Don, in Heaven, where he has built the best cabin that they will both enjoy for eternity.

Keep a guest room available for my family, please.

Respectfully,

Carolyn Valentine

I only met your Mom a few times, but she was very supportive of the job I am doing here for the 4th District Court in the attempt to protect vulnerable populations living under guardianship. She was very interested and supportive and I appreciated that greatly. What a wonderful lady who will be missed by ALL . Dede Shelton

Janet, I know you will get this message. Thank you is a small two word phrase, but it says it all. You dedicated so much of your life to assisting others. We will miss your many contributions to the Republican Party.

Curtis, Brad, Barbara, Scott and families:

The loss of a family member is such a difficult time for all. Take comfort in knowing you all have a tremendous support system in each other and in friends.

I have so many memories of time spent in the home on Randolph Drive during high school and beyond. Your mom and dad always made me feel like part of the family. Even though time goes by, I think of you all often and smile.

I hope we can get together soon and keep in touch. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Curtis, Brad, Barbara, Scott and families. The loss of a parent is difficult. We extend sincere condolences and share your grief.

We have so many wonderful memories of your mother and your family and they are all very special. We had many good times with both Janet & Don at our cabin and theirs in Cascade.
Janet was very devoted not only to her family but also to her friends, colleagues and country. She battled many health problems with never a complaint. She was one of a kind, a true friend for over 30 years, we both feel very fortunate to have had her in our lives.
