Janet Podolan passed away February 12, 2016 in Boise at age 85. She was born Janet Elfrieda Steadman November 26, 1930 in Ashland, Wisconsin to Clarence and Elfrieda (Glass) Steadman. She was better known as "Boots" or "Bootsie" to family and friends. She grew up and went to school in the Chequamegon Bay area of Lake Superior in Northern Wisconsin, graduating from Ashland High School in 1948. After the end of WWII she met Frank Podolan during her visits to her mother's family farm in the Delta area of northern Wisconsin. They were married at St. Florian's church in Ino, Wisconsin May 5, 1951 with a reception at the hub of the tiny community, the Delta Store, Bar and Grill. They made their home in the north woods of Wisconsin raising 3 children. Boots enjoyed keeping house, knitting and crocheting, and baking bread, pastries and many yummy apple, blueberry and rhubarb pies. Her cooking and baking skills brought her to work at Erickson's Café and the Rustic Roost, long time favorite eating establishments located along U.S. Hwy 2. Later she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren in Idaho, and liked to travel to the Oregon and Washington coasts, especially to Lincoln City during the Kite Festivals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Elfrieda and her husband, Frank, in 2013. She is survived by sons, Allan, of Nampa, Dale (Lee), of Eagle, Diane (David) Kulin, of Meridian; grandsons Christopher and Mathew Kulin; sister, Winifred (Tiny) Punjak, of Iron River, Wis.; cousins; nephews and nieces. No services will be held and internment will later be held at the Delta-Pike River Cemetery in northern Wisconsin.
