Jessie Metcalf Obituary

Jessie Jo Metcalf
October 19, 1982 - June 8, 2014
Jessie Jo Metcalf, 31, passed away at her home in Eagle, Idaho on June 8, 2014.
Born October 19, 1982, in Pocatello, ID, the precocious youngster was born with a love for horses and an unparalleled zest for life that touched all those around her.
From the time Jessie first figured out how to smile, she shared her joy and enthusiasm with everyone she encountered. From her first steps as a toddler, to taking brother Joe by the hand, making adults laugh with her charm and exuberance, embracing younger brother Darnell, and running to the pasture to love on her horses - all Jessie accomplished at top speed. Her infectious smile, enduring stubbornness and magnetizing charisma were always prevalent.
Jessie knew no strangers, nor did she have mere acquaintances. To meet her meant that you became part of her life even if for only a few minutes. This is because she gave a small piece of herself to everyone she met.
This is not a gift that stops with her passing; it is a gift that is ours to keep.
Jessie participated in 4-H for over 10 years, winning multiple awards and embracing many friends. She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, and the Central Idaho Horse Show Association. She attended Centennial High School in Boise, ID, participated in Flag Corps, and graduated in 2001. In 2009 Jessie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Boise State University.
Jessie was an avid O-mok-see rider and a member of the Northwest Spectacular O-mok-see Association (NWSOA) - a nonprofit organization promoting family values through patterned horse racing. O-mok-see was a family endeavor, and her larger O-mok-see family identifies her as the soul and spirit by which they ride.
Jessie loved to represent the state of Idaho and the sport she loved. Her numerous rodeo princess and queen titles started as the Chickasaw Choctaw 4-H Club Princess and went on to include the Eagle Valley Riders Senior Princess, Idaho State O-mok-see Senior Princess, National Saddle Club Association Senior Princess, District 2 Idaho High School Rodeo Queen, Owyhee Cattlemen Association Rodeo Queen, and Caldwell Night Rodeo Queen.
Her horses, including Socks, Mucho, Shooter, Bay Rum, Jack, Irv, Honey, Fashion, Moose, Topper, Silver and Annie, punctuated Jessie's life and activities.
Jessie leaves the following family members to cherish memories of her: mother Myra and father Kim; brother Joe and sister-in-law Iselda, niece Aviyanah, and nephew Aarion; brother Darnell: aunt Myla, uncle Will and cousin Wyatt Naillon; uncle Brent and cousin Christopher Meiers; grandfather Richard Meiers; uncle Maury Metcalf; and special best friends Jennifer Larson and Malerie Asher. Her beloved grandmother Joanne Meiers, Grandma RoRo and Arnold Metcalf preceded her in death.
A memorial in Jessie's honor will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Twin Oaks Arboretum at 4455 Willow Creek Road, Eagle, Idaho. Donations in her memory can be directed to the Northwest Spectacular O-mok-see Association Jessie Jo Metcalf Scholarship Fund to provide college scholarships for accomplished young horsemen and women. Donations can be addressed to: NWSOA-Jessie Jo Metcalf Scholarship Fund, c/o Kim Owens, Treasurer, 1025 South Ash Ave., Kuna, ID 83634, or deposit to Wells Fargo Jessie Jo Metcalf Scholarship Fund. Condolences can be sent to 2500 Rocket Bar Rd., Eagle, ID 83616.
Each of us feels blessed by Jessie. She always worked to visit with everyone, coach those who wanted to grow in talents she had mastered, lend a helping hand, and go the extra mile to bring love to those around her.
Jessie captured our hearts, and she will have them forever.

To Jessie's family,
I knew Jessie through Sizzler and she always had a smile and a kind word for my family and me. She was such a beautiful young woman.

And, to whomever wrote her tribute, it was nicely written and really captured her spirit.

Hold onto one another right now--my heart goes out to you. My sincerest condolences.
