He was a great teacher and mentor to a lot of students. If I was having a bad day I would just stop by his classroom at lunch to get back on my feet to having a great day. It was always packed with students listening to his great stories. Even if it was only for five minutes.

One thing I can remember about him is he love his baseball card collection. He will be missed.

He is one of the only vivid memories I have of Boise High in the mid 90s... I remember many rides to and from the golf course... Many stearn looks when he knew I was at the weekend party... The time he convinced my Latin teacher not to give me a truincy for skipping class! The time he took the golf team to Carson City, NV to compete with the best from NV and CA... The time he told me I had to drain that ten footer to make the team (a true bluff)... The time he foiled my 4.0 semester because I admitted I never read the book... Best B I ever received! The times he sent me to run an errand for the team during class an slipped me money for a shake to stop at Moons... The times he knew I was probably going to get in trouble so he hired me to work on something for the day or weekend... The incredible discussions in the team van heading home from Lewiston or in his classroom... He owed me nothing... He treated so many this way... I was a snot nosed, entitled teenager and he looked at me as an adult no matter how ignorant I acted. So sad... What a man! Cheers Coach! You are missed and not forgotten!

Good by old friend, we were buddies in Idaho Falls and he took me to the Senior Prom in 1968. Always knew he would turn out to be such an amazing man!

So many wonderful memories "Carlton" has left with those who crossed his path for a lifetime or minutes...he knew no enemy. Personally, we couldn't have asked for a better guy to be on the course with the kids; he was always looking out for them and ensuring their needs were met. Rest in peace, friend!

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Carlton at Boise High for 14 years, there was never a dull moment to say the least. Mr. Carlton would often come get me out of his office and take me to his room to be the judge and jury to settle debates with his students. I of course would always say "Carlton you are right of course again". Carlton was a very generous man. He often gave luncheons for the secretary's and add a small gift. When it came time to thank him he would say ok, ok that's good, bye. I remember on his last birthday I bought him a cake, the other secretary's told me oh you are going to make him mad, he doesn't like celebrating his birthday. I said to bad. Went to his room with the cake, sang happy birthday to him. When I gave him the cake I gave him a little hug and said this is for all you do for the rest of us! He was very humble. Late he came to my office and said thank you that was a very nice thing to do for me. He will be greatly missed by his students and friends. We love you Carlton, Brave to the Grave.

Mr. Carlton was one of the two best teachers I ever had the pleasure of learning from. (Dr. Mooney was the other, and right across the hall if I remember correctly). Carlton was truly amazing. I had several people tell me that I had to take his practical law class, and I am so happy that I did. Carlton's class was one of the highlights of my time at Boise High. He was truly one of the great ones. He will be missed.

Mr. Carlton was a wonderful teacher. His classroom was always full of students between classes or lunch. He was personal with all of us, and we definately knew him better than most teachers. He was funny, smart, and a bit mischievous too. He will be missed & always remembered.

I was driving up the big hill on Shenandoah, on one of the hottest days of summer. I saw Mr. Carlton just sweating, steadily walking up.
"Need a ride Mr. Carlton?"
"No! Keep going - I'm fine. This is my punishment for that chocolate cake I ate. Thanks for the offer though!"

Mr. Carlton was the embodiment of altruism. He was the one who ordered and designed the t-shirts at Boise High school. He was the one, who would constantly give his paycheck away to support the less fortunate in Boise.

If everyone could all have a bit of Carlton in our hearts, the world would be a much warmer place. RIP, God bless.

Coach,

I can't put into words nor verbalize the sheer impact you had on my life. You were a gift from the heavens and I will forever cherish the memories we shared in the halls/classrooms of Boise High, the waters of Alaska, and the crazy times of simply "horsing" around. I am blessed and honored to have had you as my dear friend.

Godspeed Coach,
Arnie

Rest in Peace Carlton. Our girls will dearly miss their coach. Jim and I will miss your random stops at the house to talk golf logistics. We will all miss how much you cared for our kids and the lessons that you taught them. May we all use you as an example of how to truly care about the people around us. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Such a nice tribute to an even nicer man. Carlton positively influenced so many lives as a teacher and a friend. Condolences to his family and the entire Boise High community who are grieving for him. Please keep us posted on any future wake plans as I know we could fill Taco Bell Arena with all of the students, teachers and parents Carlton touched.
