The last of her generation in our family, Joyce Alice Hartwick Bauer went peacefully home to her Heavenly Father September 22, 2015. She was born May 9, 1926 to Sarah Catherine Williamson and Maranda Joseph Hartwick in Los Angeles, California. She was the 5th of 6 children. She lived most of her life in Southern California until she moved to Boise over 25 years ago. She married Verl Reed Lish May 30, 1942 in Inglewood, California. They were the parents of two daughters, JoAnn (David) Kerr and Ranae Graham (Bill) Evans. Verl and Joyce divorced in 1960. She married Elmer Bauer in 1984. She had 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Mother loved robes—fluffy ones, snuggly ones, flannel ones, oriental ones; coats—raincoats, fur coats, wool coats, and red coats. She loved the color red---it was her color! More than anything else, she loved her family. One of her favorite saying was, "My money just sits and molds and mildews. I might as well use it to help my family." We agree with her great-grandson, Liam, who said, "There needs to be a telephone in heaven so we can talk to her."
She left a legacy of hard work, love, kindness, generosity, funny humorous sayings, great cooking, forgiveness, gratitude, and graciousness all this and more. We love you "a bushel and a peck!"
We owe a special debt of gratitude to Lynell for her loving help in the care of Mother these past two years, to Dr. Stephen Montamat and his nurse, Denice, for their care these past 20+ years, and to St Luke's Hospital-Meridian for the tender and sensitive care during her last days.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the LDS Chapel located at 4921 N. Mitchell, Boise, 83704. Family will greet friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will immediately follow at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens.
