She graduated with a bachelor and master's degree of Science in Biology from San Francisco State University. Attended Oregon State University where she received her PhD. in Biology. While completing her degrees in mycology and microbiology, she spent many days in the coastal forests of northern California and southern Oregon.
Marcia's adventuresome spirit took her to many places starting with a three-year teaching position at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. She retired in 2006 and traveled extensively with her husband both in the United States and abroad. She developed a passion for quilting and spent many fine days at the family's cabin located near McCall. Her other interests included reading books, cross word puzzles, attending book club evenings with friends, listening to authors at the Egyptian Theater, and mushroom forays. She liked viewing British films, television epics and attending the Boise Symphony. She was a long-time season ticket holder for Boise State University football and men's basketball.
She married Richard P. Howard in 1977 and together they raised two children, Eric Nordin and Anna Jarl Howard. Eric married Lindsay Langholf and together they are raising two wonderful children, Kash and Karter. Anna married Brett Bemis and is raising their energic son Weston. My sincere condolences to family and friends of Dr. Wicklow-Howard. Marcia kindly shared all of her teaching resources, materials and specimens when I arrived at Boise State Univ. (in 2007) and I will continue to look forward to incorporating those while also recognizing the many research contributions that helped lay the foundation of multiple lines of fungal biology today. I trust the celebration of life will reflect the broad wealth of personal and professional experiences and impacts she made, and hope that comfort and strength come from the fond memories that will be shared.

To Rich, Eric, and Anna. Jon Wroten and I offer our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Marcia. We remember well her infectious laugh and beautiful smile. And she was always smiling. Her naturally caring spirit shone through her words and actions everywhere she was present. She was that rare someone you trusted immediately upon meeting her. We enjoyed her and all of you as neighbors and friends and BSU alums and athletic supporters. But mostly we treasured her many amazing attributes and kindness and willingness to share her vast knowledge and talents with all of us as neighbors on Eagle Island. We hope you are comforted by how inspirational she still is to so many whom she encountered in her busy life.
