He had a great smile that could make your heart melt. He attended Roosevelt Elementary, East Jr. High and Boise High Schools where he excelled academically and athletically. During his high school years he lettered in football, basketball, and track, volunteered at the Idaho Black History Museum, and the MK Nature Center and coached youth basketball. Russell graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Ore. with a BA in International Studies. During his college career, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and lettered in football. In 2006, Russell moved to Germany for eight months where he studied Global Management, as a participant in the CBYX Youth Exchange for Young Professional, sponsored by the U.S. Congress and German Parliament. He is survived by his parents, his brothers, Adam (Nicole) and Andrew, his grandmother, Donna Blackwell of Long Beach, Calif., and a host of family members from across the U.S. While Russell will be greatly missed, we are thankful and blessed for having him in our lives. Dear Jerome and Lynn and sons,

It has been some time since we have talked and I have vivid memories of all of you, especially when the boys were little, of 'teeth cleaning' time. I was shocked and truly saddened to read of the loss of your beloved son, Russell. What a fine, young man he grew to become and I never doubted it would be so for one instant. My heart breaks knowing the grief you now endure and the time it takes to overcome such a loss for I have been there myself. I have asked my darling son to watch for Russell and to give him a hug for me. I send my thoughts and prayers to you and think of you fondly as I wish you peace in knowing that Russell is with God.

Miss Me
When I come to the end of the road,
and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
why cry for a soul set free,
Miss me a little, but not too long,
and not with your head held low,
Remember the love that we once shared,
miss me, but let me go.
For this jouurney all must take,
and each must go alone,
It is all part of the Master's plan,
a step in the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me-but let me go...
...Russell would be so irritated with me for being so generic with this poem, and then we would laugh about it-because that's what we did...we laughed untill all hours, shared so many amazing things, and had a bond unlike any other...He truly was an incredible soul, and I will NEVER be the same for knowing him...My deepest sorrows for his family for whom he loved unconditionally and inexplicidly...especially his brothers(and cats)! I regret not being able to be there for Russell's memorial, but for everyday of sunshine, there will not be a day that goes by that I wont cherish the bright light that he has inflicted on me, and for him I will try to shine...Best Wishes...I love and miss you Russell; as I always have!!!

Jerome, Lynn and Family:

Mere words cannot express my extreme sadness at the loss of your son. I remember your three boys sitting proudly together when Jerome was first sworn in as a member of the Boise City Council. Russell always had a special twinkle in his eye. I remember the many basketball and football games and track meets when he competed against my nephew, Travis. Russell grew up to be such a beautiful young man and excelled in all of his pursuits. He will be greatly missed by all those that had the opportunity to meet him, and the world will be a lesser place for those that did not get the chance to meet him. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you seek peace and comfort. God bless you.
