Myrtle Mae Christensen, 87, went home to be with Jesus, June 23, 2016. She was living in a Beehive home in Meridian, ID. Myrtle was born July 11, 1928 to Harold Osa Hoppe Sr. and Vinnie Wadea Grayson in Alliance, Nebraska. She graduated from high school in Alexandria, Nebraska in 1946. She attended Boise Junior College and Boise State College and graduated with honors, receiving a BA in elementary education in August 1971. She took graduate courses through 1999. Myrtle always loved going to school.
On August 2, 1950, she married the love of her life, Robert Dale Christensen, and they were married until his death on February 1, 2014.
Myrtle worked off and on as a secretary and a school teacher through her life. She loved and served Jesus Christ all her days, and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a loving, compassionate woman, often inviting people into their home to stay if they had no place to go. She was known for buying meals for people she saw on the street. She was a selfless, Godly woman. She camped often with her husband, children and grandchildren. She and Dale took their four children on many trips to the Oregon coast where they enjoyed walking on the beach, campfires at night and beautiful sunsets. In their later years, she and Dale spent many summers going to Camp Wi-Ne-Ma.
Myrtle is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Denise Beckman and Rebecca Dale Vance; sons, Paul Eskild Christensen and Ben Grayson Christensen; grandchildren: Amy, Emily, John Richard, Jacob, Kaleb, Lindsey and Megan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
In the book she wrote for her children "Unmerited Favor" she says: "We're headed for Heaven, please be there! It won't be Heaven for us if anyone of you or your families are missing." She extends this invitation to all of you who read this obituary.
You will be greatly missed, Mama, but we will be there for sure! Graveside services will be held at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise, ID 83714, at 2 PM on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
