April 8, 1934 - January 9, 2024

South Dartmouth, Massachusetts - Nancy Stone Wehr, 89, formerly of Boise, died on January 9, 2024, at the home of her daughter, Jennifer Wehr Brosky, in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts. She was born on April 8, 1934, to Frank M. and Jennie (Warner) Stone in Danbury, Connecticut. In 1956, she married her high-school sweetheart, Dr. David A. Wehr, three days after their graduation from Westminster Choir College, where they both earned Bachelor of Music degrees in voice and organ. From 1958-68, the Wehrs served as Ministers of Music at Boise's Cathedral of the Rockies, developing nationally-recognized choir and handbell programs. Directing the Cherub, Angelus and Bethlehem Choirs, Nancy touched the lives of hundreds of young children. She played the role of Marian in the Boise Music Week production of "The Music Man" in 1963 and was the alto soloist in the Idaho premiere of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Boise Philharmonic in 1964. After leaving Boise, the Wehrs spent the rest of their careers sharing music in schools, churches and communities in Florida, Kentucky, Texas and Maryland. Mrs. Wehr also earned a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Kentucky University.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her sister, Shirley Crowe, sons David Allen Wehr and Paul Stephen Wehr and grand-daughters Margaret Gibson Wehr and Shauna Lee Brosky. She was pre-deceased by her husband, grand-daughter Elizabeth Gibson Wehr, and siblings Ruth Stone, Frank Stone, Jr., Louise Schueler, Dorothy Headley and Jeanette Mayer.

This world has lost one of two greats. Nancy and David were a team. As a preteen in the '60s, and new to Boise from a small farming town in Oregon, the Carol Choir was my start, Crusader and then Eporath Chorale. The teachings of Nancy in that younger age group began to mold what I am today. There are teachers we always remember and hold close to our hearts. My husband and I both were under the direction of David in the Eporoth Chorle at the Cathedral of the Rockies in Boise. As a sophomore in high school, I was, along with two others, were chosen by Nancy and David to attend a summer program at the University of Denver. Nancy directed our alto group. She gave me a nickname back then, "Sparkling Girl". I loved her very much and over all these years, we had kept in touch.
Having met my husband in the choir, we became engaged and David played the organ at our wedding and Nancy sang. A beautiful day for sure.
Nancy and David taught me so many things about singing. I utilized all of them when I was performing on stage in musical theater and in the Master Chorales I soloed in. My husband always teasing me to this day about me always sitting at the edge of my chair at meals.
Dears of Nancy and David. Jack and I wish you all the best and hope ;your memories of your mother find warmth and comfort in your hearts.
Sincerely,
Kathy & Jack Lythgoe

I am so sorry for your loss. Nancy, your Mom was a very special lady! I remember her from the Cathedral of the Rockies. She gave me voice lessons and I remember her picking me up to care for you kids. The musical things that I learned from your parents have stuck with me. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel for its choir! Marilesta Nelson
