Patrick Flannery Obituary

Patrick Donnelly Flannery
1960 ~ 2015
Patrick started life in Chicago, Illinois. Since the beginning of his life, March 13, 1961, until June 6, 2015 Patrick Donnelly Flannery did nothing like anyone else. The sixth child born into the Flannery Clan, Patrick was protected by his sisters and guided by his brothers as he grew into a young man ready to do life on his terms with a heart of gold. Unconventional yet successful in all that was important to him, Patrick accomplished what he set out in life to do. While they were alive his parents, Robert and Patricia Flannery, would always say, "He just marches to a different drummer." In Cincinnati, Patrick attended St. Clare Grade School and graduated from Cincinnati's Scarlet Oaks High School class of 1978 with a concentration in auto mechanics. In 1980, Patrick graduated from Oklahoma State University's Institute of Technology with a degree in Diesel and Heavy Equipment. Patrick has a million stories from that short time. Let's just say it was a wild and crazy time.
Patrick was the best date ever. He swept June off her feet. He was the most passionate and romantic man she ever met. After seeing each other for a year and a half, Patrick and June married July 27, 1996. After struggling with losing 4 babies, they had two beautiful girls that were the light of his life, Caitlyn and Rebekah. Patrick bragged openly he was married to the best woman in the world and had the best kids in the world. Patrick and June made a bold decision for the time and had Patrick stay home with the girls starting in 2003. He loved his job. It afforded him the opportunity to develop a bond with his girls that is beyond measure. In his time at home, Patrick developed into an incredible cook. His creations weren't from recipes. If he did have a recipe, the dish never ended up even close to the directions. His girls and their friends will forever miss Dad's creations. After moving into a new home, Patrick developed a passion for real estate and wanted to financially contribute to the family home so he became a real estate agent. He loved finding people a house that would become their home. One of his favorites was a couple, pregnant with their first baby, who were desperate to find a home and would settle for anything. Patrick worked many hours to find them the perfect house. It wasn't just something they settled for…it was their dream home.
Our family took the best vacations. We feel fortunate to have so many wonderful memories together. One of our recent favorites was up at Stanley Lake. We stayed in a hotel there in town. It was hot that day and the room had no AC. After a day of adventure we were sitting in our room laughing…laughing so hard. It was pure joy spilling out into the room. We were told by another guest that we were breaking the noise rule for the hotel. Gulp…as you can guess, Patrick didn't care. As an adult, Patrick had a hard shell biker-esque appearance. A tough guy exterior, protecting his huge soft heart. If you were a friend and needed something, he would get you whatever you needed. If you were family, you got whatever you wanted. He was a strong man that did his best to take care of his family.
In the last several years, Patrick struggled with his health and addiction. We want to thank all those that comforted us, supported us and guided Patrick on his road of recovery. The girls attended Anser Charter School and I can't imagine a more compassionate community. The children, parents, and staff have been amazing. We want to thank the Walker Center for being a pivotal part of getting Patrick back to his family and friends. A special thanks to his sponsor.
He will be joining his parents, Bob and Patsy Flannery, his sister, Mary Virginia, his grandparents, his four babies, and his beloved dogs in heaven. He leaves behind his siblings Ann Flannery, Brigid Flannery, Robert Flannery, Michael Flannery (Stacy), Celia Schloemer (Greg), his nieces and nephews, Clare, Luke, Mary Pat, Ellen, Grace, Noah, and Brigid Ann, his wife, June, his two girls, Caitlyn and Rebekah, and countless friends along the way. As everyone knows, Patrick never met a stranger. Patrick, you will forever be in our hearts. We wish heaven wasn't so far away.
Both the viewing and funeral service will be held at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 West Bannock Street, Boise: viewing from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, June 11, 2015 and service Friday, June 12, 2015 at 11am. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. Sign language interpreters provided. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to offer a donation in Patrick's name to the IESDB Foundation, 714 Main Street Gooding, Idaho 83330 or http://foundation.iesdb.org. Shocked to read this. After I got to know Patrick, we realized he had briefly lived across the street from me. He was always kind to me; I am so very sorry for the family's tragic loss. Virginia Hemingway

Words seem very inadequate at times like these. To June and all the Flannery's you have my heartfelt condolences. May your grief be replaced over time by great memories. Patrick was a master of creating those for all who knew him. I was privileged to be the first non-Flannery he met when he moved to Boise and to be his friend from that moment on.
