Roger Lane Obituary

Roger Lane
1941 - 2015
Roger Lane, 74, of Kuna, Idaho, passed away on December 24, 2015, in Mesa, Arizona, while visiting family. Roger was born to Raymond and Elsie Lane in Mitchell, Nebraska. His family moved to Idaho where he attended Nampa schools and the College of Idaho. Roger served four years in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis on the submarine USS Tunny. Following his naval service, Roger married Joann Sheffield, began his 35+ year career with Hobart Food Equipment, had two children, and settled his family on a farm in Kuna, Idaho.
Throughout his lifetime, Roger so enjoyed the relationships with his family, neighbors, friends, business associates, and farming community, regularly putting the needs of others at the top of his list. He looked forward to each day with a constant optimistic outlook and experienced much joy from his career, raising and caring for farm animals, growing and eating garden food, acquiring and using farm equipment, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and being a faithful BSU sports fan.
Roger is survived by his family, Joann (wife), Shelley & John (daughter/son-in-law), Mike (son), and grandsons (Nate, Josh, and Erik) who deeply miss his smile, laughter, strength, and unwavering support.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the Cloverdale Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Roger's Life at the Kuna Event Center at 4:30 p.m.

Dear Lane family,
My name is Tom Thacker and I met Roger when my dad started working at Hobart many years ago. I was shocked and saddened to hear of your tragic loss. I was very fond of Roger, he was always extremely kind when we had the opportunity to visit. Although my interactions with him were mainly at Hobart while meeting my dad, Roger always made the effort to engage in conversation with me about many different things. Even after his departure from his Hobart business, Roger and I stayed in touch off and on over the years. Every conversation was as if we'd just spoke the day before and I will definitely miss talking with him. I am truly sorry for your loss. God Bless your family in this time of loss. Sincerely, Tom E. Thacker the 2nd

We met Roger and JoAnn when they traveled to Washington to visit the grandkids. Listening to the stories of Mike and Shelley growing up, and Roger's humorous observations about the grandchildren was priceless. We hope as time passes that memories bring you more comfort than sadness. Sending hugs, Doreen, Brian, Glen, & Erin Hester

I had the privilege of working for Roger for 24 years when he was the owner of Lane & Anderson the local Hobart Agency. I considered Roger as a good friend as well as an employer. He was one of the most energetic and positive persons I have ever known. He treated his employees as family. He helped each on a personal level whenever they were in need. After I retired I moved to Arizona and as so often happens we did not keep in contact. I am glad that I had the opportunity to work for him and wish that all could look back on their working years and say they had an employer like Roger.
